Vaalbaas baie dankie, ja dis meer voorreg as n 'berg'.

Vat my saam.

Enjoy the Island, and keep warm.
Thanks Doc, you are positive as always but please do remember I Am still going for the interview and there are apparently more old islanders. We are competing here for one position....we are all old friends which makes it a lot harder but like said, I am all in and positive and hope to break the food news soon on this thread.

I am flying down on Tuesday for an interview, position: 'Medical orderly' Gough 62

So I decided to post you guys a couple of pictures but now my internet dongle gives me hassles.
I am buy the way now 9 months without work...Gough 60 was my last paying job, and I am running on reserves of my savings. If I do not get this position....well I guess I should stay positive and hope to revive this thread with the continuous 3rd Gough expedition of TVB if there is interest. This time around I shall put in more effort and regular postings. Just a few pictures (if my internet cooperates of our backloading of expired frozens. I love helicopter work although they scare me, I have many flying hours ranging from demining medic, PSD security and medic - search and rescue in choppers but although they are great in saving lives I am always half scared to fly .....but I am still around and taking into account how many hours I have spent in them it should be concidered safe...ish

Ai Tom ek hoop regtig jy kry die job! Sterkte met die onderhoud!  :thumleft:

Strongs Tom and here's hoping for all the best in your interview.

:o  :o that fish is big... and it looks like you were on a mountaineering "uitstappie" when you caught it, judging by the ropes around the rock outcropping
There are old riders, and bold riders, but no old, bold riders.

Do not ride faster than your guardian angel can fly!

Take only pictures. leave only footprints

Yes mate only to get to the kevel from where you can fish is an expedirion on it's own. You need go down a 20meter rope ladder, over some rocks and down another rockface via rope ladder. Then around a pool in the lava rocks and down another couple meters holding onto a rope. Then you are on a rockfase about 10/12 meters above sea level. The late Joe Roos lost his life wile fishing from there back in 1989 when a freak wave washed him off the rocks. No les than 5 expeditionists has died on Gough. Most due to exposure in the mountains doing field work. It is a smal island but vegetation is dense and fog daily as well as rain. Easy to get lost, and burn up all your energy. Shoukd you fall down a cave (there are many with vegetaruin over them) you gone. The island is not accesable from shore other than helicopter or the famous crane and personnel carier

This is what you see when you approach Tristan da Cunha Island

And then the village become visible in the distance

Look at the distant right, the islands name is Inaccessible and the one not visible at this stage is Nightingale.

Nightingale is where the Tristanians go for leave, that typical weekend away. They have small huts on the island.
Inaccessible is not inhabited.

Here you can see the harbor which was relocated after the last volcanic eruption 1961 which was a big turning point in the islands history.
You can read more about it here: http://www.tristandc.com/history1961-1963.php

The Island has got a post office, 2 churches (Protestant and Catholic) , a tourism store now located in the post office, a general dealer, agriculture store and a supermarket but more like a 'plaas dorp' supermarket in our point of referance

My attempt on a panoramic, I am not a good photographer unfortunately

Maybe show your fishing prowess plus fotos in your interview, and the job will be yours.  :thumleft:

And then we sailed to Nightingale Island (not far, can not recall the total distance but it was only an hours sailing) to drop a team of biologists to do some scientific work for the 3 week takeover duration on Gough. Ship pick them up on the return, but we faced some choppy water there.A nasty swell prevented the landing by Zodiac so they used the chopper...and that chopper shouts dollars every time the twin turbine of the bell 212 fires up

The huts (shacks) on Nightingale island

These waterfalls are common thing on all these islands

That is the famous landing rock on Nightingale

Ok remember I am still jobless....If I use all my data now I am in trouble later on  :peepwall:
So here are the last couple of pics, shortly after our arrival at Gough Island.
I did not take pictures as we arrived simply because I was the expedition leader and had a lot to do, I was on the inspection flight and there was no time for hoyti toiti ladida

We have an alien plant by name sagina (not a tipo, I checked) and the rope work is part of the eradication program

Training on knots and rope work

Ok this is it for now - Goodnight  :thumleft:
