:spitcoffee: Getting married just for a green card is not in my future plans  :lol8:
No offence to any of my USA friends and I have made very good or rather great friends but I am not at all interested in a green card. I truly love SA and Africa with all my heart and everyone on my fb should have noticed that I am a proud #I am staying member....not that I agree with all the bs posted there but neither here for that matter. Dont we all sieve through the contents and choose what we want to read and where we want to get involved!

Anyway, the sadest thing about my loyalty and love for my own country is that I cant manage to find a job at age 51, but it's not me.....thousands other are in the same boat and even worse off than I am currently.

My interview is 16H40 today, and I have done my bit on preparations. I need work, but I feel halfhearted or divided....farming in the USA is not 1st price but if that's the only or first door to open I'll get my act together and once again give my 110% plus  :thumleft:

No words can justify how much I miss my loved once here in SA, especially a relative which is not healthy. And  everytime I'm away....pok it breaks my heart. I so which I was in a position not to make that interview call.
Someone else who knows my current situation told me earlier today that it's not worth it, but like said I dont have that luxury to say 'ok', let me wait it out.
A job in Africa like a house keeping manager will suit me so much better because I'll have a rotation vs a season away. Something like 3 months away and 2 or 3 weeks R&R which means one can keep a relationship alive with relatives.
Anyway, it is what it is.

That interview.....  :o I'm not sure but I think it went well  :)

I thought it would be rather unprofessional to run out of airtime so I loaded a lot of money on my phone, and then it end up costing me roughly R100 which is rather cheap for a quarter of an hour  :lol8:

Anyway; it sounded like a very young and energetic boss and he has made a huge impression on me.
He has made sure that I did understand what is expected of me, and he has asked a lot of relevant farming experience questions.

He said if he decides to go with me I'll be stationed on their Kansas farm and working this time mostly hands on on the farm as for in proper farming - planting the crops, growing, harvesting and then also work most of my time in grain elevators: cleaning, servicing, fixing augurs and then load and unload trains.
He said I will do quite a bit of trucking but no way near as much as I used to do with silage and harvesting.
Only to haul herbicides, seeds and then at times moving grain.

Contract is strict on date: 15 Feb to 15th Dec.

We will live in a house, like a proper American house and we will be 5 South Africans per house. Seems the Kansas project is much smaller than the Nebraska, if I understood correctly only 1 house in Kansas and the other 11 South Africans in Nebraska.
He said you will return home every night and have time for washing of clothes, cooking and even tv which is new to me, we did not have that luxury.

So let's see, if I do get this job I may be moving soon  :)

I am holding thumbs that this realizes for you Tom.

I think it will give you some well deserved breathing room this year.

Good luck!

He wanted to know what I know about elevators  :peepwall: and I was dead honest and said apart from dumping my grain nothing much other than what I have been told by my son.
He said it's not a problem; I'll receive proper training before starting to work in the elevators since it is a higher risk area of work.

I can honestly say that I did like the way the interview went  :)

Mooi so Tom. Dit klink inderdaad na 'n baie anderse en beter opset, en ek hoop die jong boer het die wysheid om jou te kies.

Thanks everyone!  :thumleft:

Yes baas Kobus the contract is 1 to 2 months longer than the norm, but mainly (I think) because the company owns elevators and and these need to be maintained and then the trains need up and offloading of agricultural goods.
My printer gave up, but ok it was old - I'll have to source a new one tomorrow since I will soon get follow-up emails with documents and instructions. This now the contract, rules, travel insurance, visa etc.

Now it's all real and I am relieved  :thumleft:
