no way I'll manage that, grain is rather heavy and you need that handle on a conventional shovel for proper control.

We are having a bit of issues loading this bean train today, already 12.5 hours and still a couple cars to load and then about 30 yards of beans to shovel into the shid steer and dump in the pit that leaked onto the track after a gate bumped open....pok my poor back need some TLC

Got a clear picture this morning on the train while I was still 'fresh'

Hope to sleep in tomorrow and have a good rest before we start the new week. Maybe I'll get some energy for a 5km run, which I seriously (desperately) need to maintain the fitness and shed some weight, will have to start cutting back on some treats and especially bread.
Did not get to spent much time with the new camera but the little I did was only a pleasant experience. Dont regret buying it one bit, it makes me happy.
Kansas has weird laws; like today you may shoot fireworks, so guess what's happening tonight.....yes everyone is shooting fireworks and although I'm not a fan (because of the dogs and animals) it makes quite a show....like New Year in SA x 5.

This is the grainvac and the soybeans that is a painfully slow process but we are almost done, just over a 100 000 bushels

The grainvac is a giant vacuum, and the power source by pto is a 8.8liter Chevy motor which runs on propane.
We manage to load up-to 9000 bushels in a 11 hour day. (11 truck loads)

Near the Waterville elevator I came across a bit of history; Waterville was like the rest of the 'Wild West' a cattle town - longhorn - and the popular and historic Santafe trail is also running through Kansas where I have visited it last year in Dodge City. A real cowboy town, and for those who do not know; Cowboy still is a modern day (current day) occupation in America. They work normally at feedlots and these guys are really good with cattle, I have seen them in action whilst doing silage.

And this is where we loaded train today.....13.5 hour workday.
The old loco belongs to the Coop, but at Frankfort shuttle where I normally work (my home base) we hire the loco's that bring the train-cars.
Hanover is as far as I know the second biggest branch of our Coop, I think the biggest is Dorchester Nebraska (maybe Plymouth)
This place is also rich in history, the first elevator dates back to 1950.

I see you mentioned Pikes Peak Tom, I was there a few years ago, they had one of the old steam engines on display, it is so steep the boiler was mounted on a 15 degree slope in the chassis to keep the water level ok in the steep sections.

Tom when you have filled a 100 carts how much throttle do you have to give to start moving the train to move forward for the next cart to be filled?

So it will begin to move that lot on idle or slightly above?
