Hello Wd's

Seems I am sorted now with a contract and just awaiting a letter of authorization to fly.
LOA = visa

Back into security and medic. Team leader/medic.
Rotation is 3 months in, 1 out and that suits me just fine.
That means I can still have a life with my family and friends.

Quite hectic going from island lifestyle to security but what I do like about this is the unity.

Unfortunately where I'm going photos are not allowed so the camera stays home.
I want to thank everyone for their support, for following the thread and friendship.

The next chapter cant be shared, and thanks for your understanding.
I'll stay active on WD's though, there is apparently internet connection so I'll be around.

Cheers :)

Go and enjoy what you like best.... just watch out for the DRONE bombs. I believe they are more scary than the IED's these days.

I WOULD RATHER BE AN HONEST ASSHOLE .... THAN A FLIPPEN LIAR !

Back to the "sandbox' bud, and I have no idea how things have developed after the war.
I left in 2006 March and it was still hot in there, but apparently things have calmed down.
Nope, no fighting as well. Just maintaining a precense for our oilfield clients both local and international,  rendering a service of transportation between sites and the international airport and taking care of any medical ailments.
I dont want to post company name due to CV's that may flood the inbox and people claiming they got the lead from me - been there, gor the T.
All I can say is that they are legit, operating for many years and evolved in risk and support services through all these times in a number of countries.
Salaries is down but fair which tells me that the risk must be down a lot.
So let's see how it works, but I trust it will be a good chapter.

Upon entry I will buy a 'Zein' sim for 2usd, load 30usd data which gives me unlimited usage for 30 days.
Yes not coverage all over the show but it should be fair network.
Will probably have another WhatsApp number then, but in short I'll be connected  :thumleft:

Tom,

I think WhatsApp gives you the option to use your original number.

That would be a bonus, I'll defiantly try to set it up that way!  :thumleft:

I don't think so.  AFAIK WhatsApp is based on your cell number. But it picks up the change in SIM/number, and notifies your WhatsApp contacts, and carries on uninterrupted. I know because friends recently moved to Canada and although their numbers changed, the WhatsApp thread continued. It just posted a notification that I'm chatting with their new number.

If you didn't change SIM, but just connected to data e.g. WiFi, I think WhatsApp will continue based on your current number.

That's good news, to stay connected is a huge bonus when one is working away.
Some of the old remote site contractors got divorced simply because there was no communication for months... I know how it affected my 'then' relationships as well.

I have not heard anything yet, still waiting for the LOA (letter of authorization) to leave the country and enter the sandbox. Only on arrival there will I get the actual visa.

It reminds of the Army; "hurry up and wait"
Shit I have invested a lot of money in this contract, scary when I sat down and calculated today after thinking; 'where did all the money go?!

Everything cost money, full medical with blood tests, a normal police clearance through a company (to speed up the process) and another private criminal clearance through a private company where they run you names and I'd number on the SAP criminal data basis. 2 x pairs of new shoes, all new clothing.
Couple of bags (small backpack), hydro pack (I had the bladder at least thanks Ri) and a then all the printing, scanning, 18 passport pics and international driving license at the AA.
Couple of trips to Pretoria but I am sorted.

Just need to buy usd the day I leave at forex (Will need to buy 500usd which is  R7000 without their fees) and make sure I have enough money in my Visa (has to be Visa) card.

Nothing in life just falls in your lab, but hard work will be rewarded I believe.

Since I got the health under control (anemic for a while) I have decided to enter the Medihelp 'Half Monster' race tomorrow. 21km in the most picturesque areas in Pretoria. Not one for record times and pb's, just an enjoyable race.

Good weekend to you all :thumleft:

If you change Sims WhatsApp keeps using the original number. Trust me I have done this quite a few times. There is an option to change your number. Most expats in Madagascar have international WhatsApp numbers. France US, Oz etc. This means that they stay in contact with their original people without hassle
I would then add their international number if I wanted to add them on WhatsApp. But they have a local SIM for local calls
