If you cant go back to SA then you come down to Florida and stay here for a while.  :deal:  :thumleft:

Maybe buy a cheap Harley and go ride Route 66  :ricky:

Thanks Gary, but unfortunately Visa is only till the 15th Dec and we will have to give it our best to leave early enough not to overstay our welcome. I'm sure they will understand difficulties in flight availability but we got to try. Like said, the challenge is the return flight and even Visas.

We broke a record yesterday; received 379 000 bushels of commodities (corn and beans) in 12 hours, brought by 419 trucks.
Today was a hectic start, slowed down and bit and then gained momentum and we worker 12.5 hours.
It's kinda crazy  :)

I was told today that the Coop is running a photo competition, they will reward the winner with usd50. They are looking for the best harvest picture. Sadly I cant leave my post to go snap a few pictures in order to plan a possible contestant picture but it will be cool to see what the guys enter.
I know some of the guys at other facilities have got drones and I'm sure the winning picture will be taken by elevation advantage.

See ya  :thumleft:

Maybe we can send in a SA harvesting photo? I will ask JJR or Tienie they can supply once they start harvesting which should be around end Oct.

Sorry Chris I should have been more specific; it's an intern company competition.
The grain is coming in at no less than 300 000 bushels a day plus, I have never seen something like this!

Just a couple of pictures which I snapped in my quick water breaks  :thumleft:

International dump truck is a 1963 model, 36 000 miles with a gas V8 motor. I still need to take a picture of the 1973 model with 61 000 miles on her.
I have seen so many different trucks and met so many farmers, I am overwhelmed.

Yes Chris, it is cooling down now, especially when we have a Northerly wind 😅, winter came soon this year in the Northen hemisphere. The farmer harvesting our Coop fields had to wait till noon for it to dry out completely. There was no wind that could have helped. Beans unfortunately not a gr8 yield this year, around 40 to 55 bushel an acre but corn 160 up to 220!

Baie dankie Johan. Ek vertrou die rug gaan hou tot ek Desember kan gaan vir n deeglike ondersoek, groete!

This could have been a nice photo if it was not for the lens flare, I was in a bit of a hurry.
The boss gave Greg and me off this afternoon at 15H00, said he think we can do with some rest. Need to be back at work tomorrow 13H00 to 18H00.
That will bring our hours for the 2 week pay period to 146hours, and normal is 80, that is 66 hours more!
Feels weird, can't ge myself to do 'nothing' and decided to spring clean the kitchen  :lol8: but did a bit of photo editing and now I'll get lost in a adventure novel by Clive Cussler.  :laughing4:

If I ignore it, it will go away right ???  :peepwall:  ''wish  :'(

So good to see you back here sir, and many will agree on that!  :thumleft:

Back to the back  Worked 1 to 6 today to complete my 2 week pay period but the last straight truck for the day had a temperamental rear trap and I was fighting it and eventually got it opened but yes that back did not appreciate the wrestle.
We are getting 3 trains this week, and it's rather urgent and it requires all hands on deck.
Our first train at 4 am Monday which means I have now 6 hours to rest before I have to get up and drive to start the day.

Headlight check, spare batteries check, Warm coat check, enough food check  :lol8: and maybe I should add a teaspoon of cement to tough up and go do a proper job!!  :laughing4:

I will have to wait it out, self medicate and when the dust settles I'll have to go and see if a local doc can prescribe me some good 'muti' (Slang for medication)

Herwith a pictures of the trucks lining up to dump their first load for the day at 13H00 today!  :thumleft:

I started the week with a 15hour 30min shift, but the bean train is loaded and that beans will be shipped to China.
Tomorrow we have a corn train, it is due to arrive at noon and it should keep us busy till around 21H00 or later.
Thursday and Friday also corn trains. This will be the toughest harvest week for us, but so far so good. I'm doing ok and should hit the sack to get some rest, just waiting for the washing machine to finish the cycle.
Goodnight :thumleft:

PS: That white GMC bakkie is my company vehicle, it is a bit rusty at the rear wheel arches due to the salt on the roads (winter to melt ice) but man I love that bakkie, a very lively V8 gas motor and yes I need that power because I often tow gravity wagon, Anhydrous trailers and so on.
It is an old bakkie, but reliable and a realy nice ride :)

Tom, how many truckloads go into those silos ?

The 4 Cement tubes in the picture is 600 000 bushels, and a semi (tractor and trailer) haul 1000 bushels typically although some farmers still uses straight trucks which only takes anything between 300 and 600 bushels.
So we can fill one of those cement silos with 600 trucks

Currently we fill one of those in 2,5 days.

Train takes 440 000, which is 3/4 of the silo. We will load another 3 corn trains this week :)
Not in the picture but adjacent (in line) is our newest edition, a 860 000 bushels silo.
The pile (bunker) was filled in 4 days = 1.1 million Bushels corn.
We still have 2 x 600 000 bunkers vacant.

I have seen pictures of yours Big Oil, great looking truck and seemingly the same model as what my boss is driving!
Mine is a bit old, I'll have to look at registration papers but around a 2003 with 200k miles, will report back.
