18 inch tube in 17 inch tyre

Hi there boys and girls, anybody doing this? Any issues I should be aware off?

I cant seem to find 17 inch tubes, can only get 21 and 18.

I'll think you'll be ok as people have used 21 inch tubes for 18 rears.

In an emergency this is fine.

You may find however that folds in the bigger tube could cause excessive internal chaffing, leading to unnecessarty punctures

AOR is correct, as is Digital Dan. I ran out of tubes on my 18inch rear tube when I had the flattie, on the morning of going to meet up with the Vaalie bunch. I stuffed a 21 incher in there, and it was fine. I did speeds up to 185 on the Katoom, with crutches and a pillion on the back, several hundred kays that day.

However, the next day it was flat again. That chafing wasnt good.

If you want that size tube, BMW dealers are your answer. All their rear tyres are 17inchers...
