2012 690 seriaaaaas problems
« on: September 09, 2014, 06:13:36 pm »
Hi guys

I have a 2012 690 Enduro that I feel is a friday afternoon bike as I have just had issues with the thing. When she decides to work she is great. Now, my latest problem.....

I gave her a bath a few days back. No power wash, just hosepipe and some Prepsol. Now, when I try to start her, she cycles through perfectly. No FI issues, fires up perfectly and idles for about 10 seconds and dies. When I flick the starter she start ups and same issue until she does not want to start anymore. I have charged the battery and the light stays on throughout so I think I can eliminate the battery. I have filled up all 3 tanks and turned the 2 front tanks off, so she fuel is not an issue.

I have now had it with this bike and feel that a match in the tank is the next route of action.....  :angry4: :angry4:

If any of you guys have seen this issue before, please let me know what it could be as I really want to get the bike up and running again!

Thanks :help: please

Just scroll down on this page,  in the last month there were two others that did the same, different causes though.
Honda XR 650L, Royal Enfield 500 classic, TVS APACHE 180, Ktm 640 adventure R, Yamaha XT250.

Thanks all for the comments - She seemed to have sorted herself out. I think it was the talk of matches. I ran her through the 15 min reset and all seems well. Will take her for a put around the afternoon to see if all is well!

Strange how about a week ago I wanted one with my whole heart, even had an interested buyer for my 640 but schedules just would let us get together, I know the 690 doesn't have many issues but it just feels like it lately. My 640 got sent for new paint an stickers and I can't wait to have her back, the 690 craving is still there but not so itchy.... Enjoy your awesome bike!

Well I can tell you that I still miss my 640. It just has something special that the 690 doesn't. Not that I would trade my 690 for a 640, I'd just love to own a 640 as well

Dont laugh but check that your spark plug cap is pushed right in(the 690 cap is a tight fit to keep water out). If it is not on correctly it will still work untill it gets wet then you will have the same sproblem. Also check that the coil wire is on properly at the coil side.

worth a check.

Maybe I will get shot for this comment>>>the 640 is only true adventure bike ever made in its class. No rallye fairing required, no additional tanks required, no changes to suspension required and you can throw the toughest stuff at them and they just cruise on.......690 not so sure how much it appeals to me. With that said>>>>>>>off course it is a different story when it is kitted out but eish $$$$$$$$

Had lots of problems with mine, 6 times broken down, clean injector and she goes for 150 km then stops.
Eventually was told to remove pump, and put high presure cleaner in tank to flush her, out comes a lump of prattelys steel weld thats slowly being dissolving and causing blocked inj.
Ran 400 km and no break downs. How that got in is a mystery, but bike was bought second hand .
