I confess, I am attached to my painted can. I bought a nice rack from Chris (zebra - Flying Brick) with the sole intention of transplanting my jerrycan from the XR to the 690. The rack is made out of ½" stainless tubing. This is a bit smaller than the ¾" tubing of the XR rack but with the rack installed it seems really solid. Forgot to weigh the rack, but it is quite a light affair.
Still need to sort out the bits and pieces to make the jerrycan fit but the basic concept is clear. An easy way to carry extra fuel without the whole Oryx-type conversion cluttering up the front of the bike. Will make something to easily attach a 5 litre can as well for the times when just a few more litres will do. And another plus is that 2 empty 5 litre cans will work as floats when fording rivers.
