Myself and friends decided to do a quick trip to Clarens and the Monantsa loop in Lesotho:
Ready to go!
Myself, Sarel & Hennie left from Lichtenburg and first stop was at the farm butchery to buy some biltong:
Having breakfast in Parys - it was damn busy with the Rhino rally being on so we left quickly to hit the dirt:
At last we were on the dirt!:
Hennie:
Sarel:
Me:
Arriving at Kiara my friend Errol was already waiting and ready to go!
Jaco (blerrie prokerower) also there:
Gary (not on his backwheel for a change)
Having breakfast at The Plaasstoep before crossing the border:
200m Into the dirt in Lesotho I got a puncture but tubeless definitely has it benefits - took me maybe 3min to repair.
Somewhere on the Monantsa Loop:
Sarel decided that his LC needs some rest:
Taking a break:
Don't you feel like doing it when seeing this pic?
Lesotho, done and dusted:
Stopping at Golden Gate on our way back:
The Micro Brewery in Clarens was a perfect end for the day!
Notes on Monantsa Loop:
You need to exit the Monantsa border post and not enter there as they don't have a Lesotho border control present.
It took us 3 hours from Caledon border to Monantsa but we didn't stop much and you should prepare for 4 hours
Border control at Monantsa close at 16:00 so don't be late
You will go through water, do a switchback on loose rocks and go up a very steep incline all in the space of 100m
90% Persent of the loop is basically just bad gravel up and down (Take your puncture kit!)
We did it on 1200's so you can use any ds bike.
We encountered only friendly locals, no rock throwing but one kid about 5 years old that chased us with a sambok ;D
