WC -This Saturday Karoo Toe, Stonehenge for Lunch
« on: September 21, 2014, 08:32:35 am »
What a lekker day for ridding. And a hospital in Ceres, mmm not good
The rain in the week had managed to just get to the karoo , dampening the dust so there wasnt too much of it.

But the cold mornings still kept the WD's asleep in bed and away from freedom !

So Riders were :

1. Fuzzy Muzzy
2.Andy660
3.Hope
4.Grant 650
.
It was cold in the morning and inner gloves were necessary or your finger tips froze.
All good , we filled our tanks to the brim in Ceres and with only 4 bikes an Hope up front with one of those new BMW 1200's , we made good time and got to Padstal for some lekker plaas coffee and a cooksister !
Next was up the R355 8km past the Tankwa turn off , you make a left at that big black tyre that says De Mond,

and do 20km and 4 gates to De Mond, an Oasis at  the other end of the Maaitjies River,

First stop was De Mond , nobody except me had been there before and I wanted to share with them the beaty of this place,
Owned by and still run by a farmer and his wife, now in there 70`s, is the gem of a Camp.
About 15 bungalows and two stone houses, some with there own showers but all with kitchens, stove and fridge,@ R100 per person per night , why bother with a tent on the bike.

Next trip,we going to do a two nighters there fore sure,
The place is spotless with a big river , where the Doring and Maaitjies river join, there is an  abundance of Geel Vis and Bass,A fresh water finishing bonanza,
You can travel some 4k up stream by rubber duck or dingy too.
There is braai grids and plenty of braai hout for sale there too.

Back to the rough grond pad

Hope on new BMW1200

Grant 650

Fuzzy Muzzy( who's name incidently comes from the cartoon , Fuzzy Muzzy is a bear , Fuzzy Muzzy has no hair ! )

My faithfull steed XT660Z

to Elandsvlei , the farm at the bottom of the old Postal route.
The farmer told us that at the moment it ist possible to cross the river to the postal route,, will probably  have dropped by next month though.

Elandsvlei farm was once a beatiful place , now very run down since the farmer Kobus sold it to some foreighnersAnd all that remains , is a Beatifull little Elandsvlei Lae Skool.Run by Kobus's sister-in-law.

The old Cape Dutch farm house has long since lost its roof to a fire and the old barn in the yard too.

Its good to see that Kobus's brother, still farms the green lands there and is wife runs the Lae Skool now.

Next up was Stonehenge, a lekker braai ,and pap en sous for lunch,
We bumped into a WD party with the new Willehond on a trailer , destined  for the Doring River at the Biedouw Valley river crossing, on a trailer thats axle was held on with  blou Draad.

After  lunch it was South down the R355 for 2km, then LH to a sandy dirt road down the scorpion pad road to Riebeeker for petrol and to see how the night Ride camp is coming on

After some lekker sandy patches of two spoor road , we met up with Riebeeker and Hanilie, his wife to get out Petrol.
They had spent the night there and the place was looking well maintained.

Back to the road , we hit the Padstal next , where the Nuts & Bolts Ralley had stopped for a "coke".
Man , there were some nice old cars there.

Back down the R355 untill you his the second piece of tar, You make a left turn till just over a small bridge then a right turn , which will take you up a mountain kloof to the tar road which goes pat Matroosberg and back onto the R355( my Shortcut and Fuzzy Muzzy`s short cut to Hospital )

About 3 kliks down the road is a 90 degree LH turn , withe the sun in your eyes and the sun setting in the west , its a recipe for disaster , if you arent in the front with no dust,
The corner comes up very suddenly and gives you a wakeup call, but not for Fuzzy Muzzy , he desided to fly over the barbed wire fence, dislocate his shoulder and tear tendons .

I get to the T-junction , wait till I see Grant behind me and hit a left up the road, at the next intersection I wait,
And grant waits at the T Junction for fuzzy , who doesnt come, so Grant rides back to find a long skid mark on the bend and a rider in the bush with his bike,
Grant can fill us in , as I wast there,

I was at the end of the road , waiting for them

A farmer pics Fuzzy up and rushes him to Ceres hospital , which was a whole other story.

Hope and I are un aware of all this and we are in Ceres waiting for them.

Sorry to hear about Fuzzy's off.

I believe he's okay, but I imagine he's sore. Heal up fast and well, bud.

All the best.

Aah man. What a disater. And he has just started riding again.

Our ride today into the Tankwa found that the Padstal was burgled last night and burnt down to the ground.

it was still smouldering this afternoon.

Yup get to the corner and wait for 5 minutes as Fuzzy seems to enjoy stopping to take some photo's
Fuzzy does not pitch so I shoot back along the road thinking O no man not the left -it will be the left

True as Bob as I come up to the corner I see the bike on the left caught up in the fence and no Fuzzy man

Check the skid mark seeing he came in hot and hit the brakes - I turn the bike around to get my bike out of the way on the corner and go and look for Fuzzy
Jump the fence at his bike and see him flat on the ground in the field with his helmet off looking very unhappy with life

Talk to him and get him sitting up after establishing that his shoulder is done in - fuzzy is not happy at all
No cell reception -I do not want to leave him to look for help
Fortunately a Bakker with the farmer from Laastedrif farm at the bottom of the Matroosberg comes past with his wife and I manage to stop them

Good people - the Oom cuts the wire so that we can get Fuzzy back to the road and we load him in the Bakker and drive to the farm - at the farm the Ooms son gets F Uzi transferred into the car where he can lie back for the drive to Ceres for medical help

We eventually get to the hospital and then get told to go to the doctors rooms as it is after sunset-we go to the doc who sends us back to the hospital as F uzzy is feeling very sorry for himself and not a happy camper
At the hospital the doc gives Fuzzy a couple of shots and does a full check up of the guy- Fuzzy is in pain and we can certainly hear it standing in the passage

With Fuzzy sorted out we take off over Bainskloof and home for a late dinner

I checked in at about 09.49 for a late dinner

Good to hear that Fuzzy is back in CT

The famer had gone back to fetch the bike and had it back at his place by the time that we had Fuzzy sorted out with his pain shots

The farmer did us all proud - we have to get a big thank you to these guys on our next ride

Thanks guys

just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for helping me out, i simply overcooked the corner.. visibility was low cos of the dust and i did'nt adjust my following distance or speed accordingly.. as soon as i saw the corner i tried to brake but it was'nt going to happen so i decided to stand up and pin it to try and make it through the field.. i picked a line and went for it.. everything went well for the 1st 2 seconds.. i made it off the road upright, hit a ditch and went airborn into and through a bush.. my undoing was a barbed wire fence that wrapped itself around the bike and sent me off like superman.. fail. thankfully there had been some rain so theground was quite wet which softened the blow.

Massive thanks to Grant650x for coming back to sort me out and to the farmer who really went out of their way to help me.. donner but I was in a bit of pain. huge thanks to my mate Warren who drove from CT to collect me, I arrived at panarama Medi clinic at 10;30pm and after examination was sent for x rays .. all done by 1am.. thankfully nothing broken, gear did its job. I feel like i got hit by a bus but just a few days rest will sort that.. 6 weeks for the dislocated shoulder to come right.

Going to recover the bike tomorrow. i hope its not too bad cos I'm not insured  :xxbah:

What a lekker ride we had that day..i'll post pics asap..i took about 100.. just trying to load them all.
