Sani Pass

T-Rex, how did that beast behave up Sani?  Easy, fair, some hairy moments, a breeze, how?  What was more difficult?  Up or down?

Just wondering... ;D

I must say I have seen Sani in better conditions than this time. Fortunately it was dry.

The lower portion ,before the border post , shows evidence of the last rains they had. But it is solid an there is good traction.

The last few km's ...... the switchbacks was more difficult, a lot of loose rocks .....

With those big bikes you have to keep momentum. If you stop on that last portion it will be difficult to get going again . I had a few moments when there was a struggle with traction but the low down tourqe pulled it through. The loose rocks did not help.

Up or down ???

I prefer uphill , I don't like downhills with loose pebbles/ rocks. I , on the return down , just took it very slow. The brakes in Enduro mode helped a lot. I even used the front brake ( with extreme caution) on the straight portions. The downhill actually went better than I thought !!

The beast went up and down without any mishap. I must , however state that it was definitely not a breeze. You have to turn the bike on those switchbacks and keep it as upright as possible to avoid it losing traction/direction .
