DAY 3 -  BUSH CAMP TO MOLOPO LODGE
We waited for this day a long time.  Today’s route was planned for quite a while and we couldn’t wait to see what was waiting for us.  From the Bush Camp, 4km’s on the road to Askham you get a turnoff to your right.  From here it is roughly 160km’s all along the Botswana border to Molopo lodge.  You will get something of everything on this road / track, from corrugations, sand, tweespoor, some rocky pieces and also smooth hard surface stretches.  Here are also a couple of gates that need to be opened and closed.  My GPS indicate it as the Moplopo 4X4 route with no road number, it only shows “unpaved road”.   It is definitely not only a 4X4 track.  A vehicle with enough ground clearance with the right tyre pressure will do this road with ease.

After one of my best nights sleeping in the Kalahari under the stars we got up and prepared for the day ahead.  Starting a fire and boiling some water for the morning coffee.

Packed and ready for the day’s trip.

The 4km before the turnoff.

Random photos of the route we travelled.

No matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everybody on the the couch

At one spot we got a lekka tweespoor with a high middelmannetjie.  I was doing around 80km/h and we ploughed through the middelmannetjie.  My wife was not happy, she had sand all over her.

We enjoyed ourselves so much, we almost forgot to stop and make a brekkie.
Brekkie time.

We had some company during our brekkie.

The last 30 odds kays before Molopo lodge the road opens up.  Nannie was videoing with the camera when she saw a snake on the side of the road.  Here is a snapshot of the mamba, also known as a “geelslang” in these parts of the world, crossing the road.  Look on the right of the snapshot.

We stopped and took some photos of the snake, but the oke was already on the Bostwana side.

The last couple of pics before Molopo lodge

Arriving at Molopo lodge

This short route was worth the wait.  We enjoyed it tremendously and it gave me a good idée of what the Karretjie is capable of.
We arrived quite early at the bash, booked in and unpacked.  We chilled the rest of the day, greeting old friends and meeting new ones.

Bliksem!

Dalk moet ek ook n sidecar kry vir my bike, dan sal my vrou weer begin saamry.
Dit lyk moerse lekker.

Hoe het die spoorwydte van die bike/sykar kombinasie gewerk in die tweespoor sand?
Het albei wiele in n spoor geloop, of was dit soms n probleem?

Ek is gebore in die Kalahari. My hart trek altyd n punt soontoe as ek fotos van rooi duine sien.

Smaak my sy was gemaak vir daai spore.  Met die wiele afgeblaas tot die regte druk was dit 'n plesier om die sand te ry.
