We have an action packed Latest News bulletin today and some new innovations available on the website. Plus we take a cyber drive over the Steenbras Mountain Road - a 1100m ascent up to the summit of Mariepskop and finally we have a little fun at Die Poortjie - one of the smallest, shortest passes in South Africa.

The most common question we get is "When is a pass a pass?"
So we decided to write a definition - and here it is:

A pass is a pass when a road traverses up or down or up and down, or down and up, or any variable of down and up or through a kloof, or nek of a mountain or a hill; or follows the course of a river through a mountain and complies with certain geographical requirements in terms of distance, gradient, number of turns, geological complexity and also if a government department has named any road officially as a pass whether it complies with this definition or not.

Any questions?  ;D
