690 Air Filter
« on: November 13, 2014, 08:39:44 am »
Too lazy to search old posts, I am sure this question has already been asked and answered, but taking a chance anyway  :):

- I guess leaving the air filter to be cleaned at 10,000 km service intervals is not a good idea?  ::)  If not, what interval is better?
- Can one clean the stock filter, or does it need to be replaced at the recommended interval? If it can just be cleaned, is is just a question of shaking it out, or does it need to be treated or washed somehow?
- Is there any use in going to a foam filter, and moving away from the stock filter?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, I think most people will advise to get a foam filter, especially I you ride off the black stuff 99% of the time.

I have a unifilter, and it works well. Make sure it seats well and seals correctly, by checking if there is any trace of dust in the airbox after a dusty ride.

I clean and oil mine depending on the terrain and conditions ridden, but I suppose, on average about every 1000km.

Hope it helps.

My stock filter was stuffed on the 1000kms service. I replaced it with another paper which was again stuffed after doing another 2000km. It also let dust into the airbox. Fitted a foam one and will also clean every 1000kms or so

I have the KTM powerparts one.
Works well but you need to seal with grease as the airbox doesnt push down evenly on the filter.

En wat gebruik jy nou? Unifiter of OEM?
Surely if I was obsessed with motorcycles I’d have more than one; no two; no three; no no, four… ah, never mind…
