They certainly don't.

I am tired of paying for stuff that doesn't work and then paying some more to have it fixed.. SCREW THIS GOVERMENT  :dousing:
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

You guys ever considered that proper road infrastructure is a lot like electricity infrastructure. The longer you delay payment the more the damage (including economic) and the more you have to pay in the long run.

One thing is sure - you gonna pay one way or the other. :pot:

Thats the point dude, we want to pay, but as you said - the other way.  Did you read the previous etoll stuff? Seems you are misding the point by a country mile?  The whole issue is around how to pay.

They are coming up with a more pragmatic approach it seems. For whatever reason (which is beyond me to understand) it seems that it will never be paid from the fuel levy alone.

We are going to be paying via various avenues  - increased license fees seems to be one.

So now i must pay via my licenses, even if i dont use the toll roads. Small bikes which are not allowed on the toll roads are paying for this kak.  Defeats the whole user pay plan.

Why dont they give us straight reasons not to use the fuel levy?

We have been paying all along. The money just never went towards maintenance.
Now they expect us to pay somewhere else??? How long are we going to tolerate this? Our money is being stolen every month and we are way too idle about the whole issue.

This is what happens when you remove the ring fence around the fuel levy and use it for "other" stuff.
The fuel levy applied the "user pays" principle, but it gets used for those who DONT pay. And the excuse that
people in other areas dont want to pay the levy because the roads are in Gauteng also doesnt work because
other areas benefit from Gauteng users too.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul eventually comes back to haunt you.

So they reduce the tariffs in order to cover the cost for toll collection and gantry maintenance? Job creation or security?
And the actual roads are paid from other sources such as licenses?

exactly what it will boil down to, except that those tariffs will also cover the bribes - I have no intention to participate in that - they can get fucked

Certainly not defending etoll here, but if the fuel levy is used then your small bike will still pay for the roads it cannot travel on.

yes sure, tax is never equitable - I pay income tax which is used to quite an extent for education, for kids I don't have, for hospitals I don't use, for police that don't protect me, but I sure as hell won't pay a massive collection fee on a 'tax' (e-tolls) that I can readily avoid
