DRZ400: Identify the year model - Pic added

 ;)I bought this as a play-trails-come project DS bike.
Can the DRZ experts identify this DRZ`s model for me please .
All I have is the pic and the owner says 2000 model ?
And what to check for when buying this old model.
Apparently the starter clutch is on its way out, cost to repair that ?

Het hy smog kak aan die linkerkant van die motor as jy op hom sit? Net onder die radiators? Dan is dit n "S" Staal tank is ook teken van n "S" model.

As hy n flatslide FCR carb het is hy n "E"

Have the seller sent you a copy of registration papers? Check the VIN #

So the bike has arrived in Witbank and I am going to fetch it early next month  :ricky:
Got more pics now and it is the perfect project DRZ. for me. Looking forward to start the project.
 This was apparently a farm bike, and that to me is not a bad thing, because it means that it hasn't been riding long distance high speeds.
What do you think ?
Vin=JS1BF111100104660.  And it has the plastic tank.
Can we get the year model off the VIN ?

I will be looking for parts from now on ,if you have any you want to part with, please pm me.
From what I can see for now is plastics, shock boots and whatever you can see from the pics.
I will start the bike first to listen to the engine as to decide how far I am going to strip the engine down.
My thoughts where to at least do a top, piston and, or rings and cylinder head overhaul, but will see  as I go along.
Then strip-down the frame and all moving part for sandblasting and painting or powder coating.
The engine I need advice on what to do, bead-blast and leave it like that or clean and paint or polish the whole engine up ?
Any advise and ideas will be welcome .

Sjoe ek sien dit ook nou dat jy dit noem. Seker 'n ou met groot voete wat hom so op gebuig het om sy voet onder die gearlever te kon inkry. Sal nie werk met my crocks nie 😆

Nee man, daai was n endurobike gewees en die gearlever was gelig vir off road boots.

Ek het so 2 jaar terug n drz400 gesoek en toe agter gekom daar was baie enduro bikes beskikbaar wat nie op die pad was nie.

Wat se sy carb? Keihin FCR? Dan het jy die e model. Die S is ingevoer as padwaardig en die E as enduro, n paar E's is toe padwaardig gemaak.

Die spesifieke een was lank te koop, jy het hom seker vir n bargain gekry?

Ja die prys was reg en hy is nie opi pad nie. Is net wat ek gesoek het . Sal nie n klomp geld kos om hom bietjie op te dolly nie .
 Sal more laat kyk watter carb dit is. Watter carb is die beter een ?
En is hierdie die een met die dikker head gasket, m.a.w. minder gestresde engine?
