Changing the oil filter is one task I have always left to the professionals.
Visiting bmwbikes.org.uk after a short break,
I found reference to some interesting information.

The general consensus of the UK Airheads is to replace the o-ring with the filter.
Due to the possible implications of low oil pressure on engine bearings,
the US Airheads call it the $2000 O-ring that costs $3.
I'm still confused by the one-piece and two piece filters.
From what I have read, the two-piece filters were designed for use on RS/RT models where fairings were fitted.
The one-piece was used on the other models, but has now been discontinued...?
Are we to use the two-piece filter on all models?
What of shims and gaskets that I read about?
Any inputs...?
