Would you like a LED Daytime Running Light similar to this - on your R1200GS 04-12?

Last week the final prototype of the DRL module (Daylight Running Light) for the 2004-2012 R1200GS/GSA was released.

The green light has been given for the first production of 500 pieces.

The anticipated list price would be just round about 100. ZAR price will depend on exchange rates and taxes.

At 850 Lumen the LED is very bright.

it will save a lot of normal bulb replacements if u can switch the normal lights off and use this for daylight driving. :thumleft:

The plan is to bring out an electronic module that automatic switch the standard H7 light on/off depending on the darkness. So during the day, you could run with only the DRL LED module.

Nifty idea!  Just seems a tad expensive.

The light is integrated into a new light housing that will replace the current one, hence the cost. BMW parts go either for R1000 or R10000 :ricky:, so this might not be out of line.

Very nice, but I'm reluctant to give up my HID visibility in broad daylight

Legality regarding these? You are effectively switching of the stock lights and replacing it with a new aftermarket light?

Good question. The DRL is integrated in the LC design...

Saw that when I looked closer.  The price is therefore not as bad as I initially thought.

It does not seem very bright, although that could just be the photos. IMO you want as much as possible light for visibility, and if this LED strip is not as bright as your normal headlight then it's just something that looks zooty, but does not help much.

Feedback from the developer:

This LED Daytime Running Light replaces the small standard T10 bulb (park light). It plugs into the park light cable.

The light output is strong. It is however not a H7 (high beam) light! (nor is the Daytime Running Light on the LC version)

No modifications needs to be done, this is a plug and play setup.
