I use the Safari, and do not really notice the weight difference. You can use only rear for shorter rides, it also protects the radiators in a fall and very robost

Gedeon( GJ) and Kobie used Safari this year with great success.
Gideon had a real weight problem in the front. Front wheel wanted to stay in the air all the time.

Big tank, popper headlight (baja designs or similar) and a tower is all you need. Less to damage in a crash too.
I hear ya! The reports above are at odds with reports that I've heard from previous owners of 690s with Safari tanks, who say that the handling was adversely affected because the fuel sits really high with the Safari tank, and it makes the bike quite a bit wider. But maybe this is just a personal thing, then?

The Omega kit is a lot more expensive, but the tanks are narrow and deep -- weight appears to be kept low...

The Oryx looks cheaper because it is. By quite a big margain (if ordering a new bike). Safari tank and Baja headlight would probably work out almost as much.
Both the Oryx and Omega kits cost 'bout R55k as at last month when I enquired. The Omega kit includes bashplate and seat; it wasn't clear what exactly is included in the Oryx kit. Safari solution with HDB Rallye Lite would cost less than half, even after import duties and whatnot.

Another thing that an owner of the RR EVO2 kit pointed out to me the other day, which I hadn't previously considered, is that some kits have "corners" on the tanks that tend to hit the ground first when falling, and can sometimes catch on branches and rocks and things. It's hard to tell from pictures if this is the case with other kits. But if you fall and the bike slide against an abrasive surface, this is where the hole wears through. Smooth, rounded tanks suffer from this problem less.

Oryx kit is only cheaper when you buy a new bike with the kit fitted. Kit works out to under 30k
