1200 GSA clutch gone, maybe the KTM is an option? Cost R 10K ouch!

I never thought I would think like this, the die hard 1200GSA man!  BUT my clutch is being replaced after 40 000 kms and god knows what price but it takes 2 days!  Apparently "this is normal mileage for this bikes clutch, generally 40 - 50 000 k's, its not like the 1150" says BMW.  This after my shaft went at 30 000 k's!  Yes I have done some serious off road bits and ride it hard, but surely that's what the "adventure" bit stands for?

2 questions out there;
1.  Anyone else replaced their clutch so soon?
2  Would a 990 be any different cost and reliability wize?

I'm in mourning and BMW induced shock  :'(
