Dear WD friends the time has nearly come for my round the world trip to start. I will be leaving on Saturday the 9/05/2015 at 7 am from the Wimpy and BP Garage on the M1 North next to Gold Reef City. I will be there from 6am having breakfast and chat to anyone who would be interested to come and say hello. The plan is to do it in two stages. Stage one will be to go through Africa to Egypt and then to Israel. From there I will take a boat to Italy. After Italy over the Alps to Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France and then the British Isles. By then it will be nearly winter and I will leave the bike with family in London. Six months later I will return to do stage two and do the rest of Europe and then on to the east through Turkey, India, China, Mongolia and through Russia as far east as possible. From there I will take a ferry to somewhere close to Alaska then down to Canada and on to North Amerika. From there down through all the South American countries down as far South as possible. Then by boat across the Atlantic Ocean to Cape Town. From Cape Town back to Jo burg. Stage one should take 3-4 months and stage two about a year and 9 months always traveling in summer and moving with the seasons. Stage one will be about 17 000km and stage two about 73 000km total=90 000km. I would have liked to have done it over a longer period but I am turning 65 three weeks into the trip. This trip has been on my bucket list for some time and I just have to do it now. I have done a previous trip into Africa. You can read the RR under Ride Reports>Long tours>To the Equator and back in 40 days or at this link.  https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=86438.0 I am using the same Yamaha XT 660R that I went to Kenya with and it has done 40 000km now. I have only changed the color from black to red, see photo below. I will still print a list of things that I think other WD members can give me advice on. So far Michnus has been of great help. Thanks for reading and I will do an RR as soon as the trip starts so whoever want can ride along on their computers.
