Looking at the G450X mudguard, I felt that the closeness of the rear (BLACK) portion of the front mudguard was very close indeed to the center-part of the radiator, and did not offer much cooling over the CENTRAL portion of the radiator, from a quick, casual inspection...
Little did I know that when removing the whole unit, there were NO SLOTS whatsoever cut in the rear of this guard - to allow the radiator to get maximum cooling, but what BMW d-i-d do is put 'mock' vents, - which sure LOOK like vents, but are not, in the lower portion?
WTF? ???
So I stripped off a G650X Cross Challenge front mudguard, and low and behold - beautiful vents appear!
1. maybe the center portion of the radiator does not NEED any cooling?
2. maybe it SHOULD be cut-out, but was not (highly unlikely, but putting it out there!)
3. maybe there is another, plausible reason for NOT having them cut out? I know in th eStates, people do 'trickery' with there radiators to get them warmer quickly in cold conditions, etc - but that is in mid-Winter, not 40 degrees C in the Tankwa Karoo!
Cheers
