This thread needs some momentum! The post-Amageza slump is killing me (although it is very good for productivity - my boss is killing me in another way . . .)

So Sam Sunderland is out of Dakar (http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=181288.msg3379022#msg3379022).
Didn't he miss it two years ago with an injury? Rather disappointing, I thought he had a great chance of winning it next year.

So now I have to updated my predicted winner......
What do you think?

Toby Price had such a good race last year, but I wonder if lack of experience and pressure will get the better of him.
Matthias Walkner maybe? Or Gonk? Wouldn't that be nice.
But I'm going to have to go with Crash-Bang Barreda. I think next year is going to be his year.

I think he did so well last year that he will be under huge pressure to do even better this year, and the pressure will result in mistakes. I have a funny feeling that he didn't treat the race with enough respect, if that makes sense? Kinda like Comrades novices that say there are racing to win, and then blow up. Dakar needs to be treated with respect, slightly feared. The guys that win lurk with intent rather than blasting along flat-out all the time.

My money is on Paulo Goncalves.

We know he is fast and consistent. Has the worst luck in Dakar but man does he deserve a win! :ricky:

I think KTM’s domination will continue next year, and it is not because they have the best bike or even the best rider. The depth of talent in their field is simply staggering. Even without Coma and Sunderland, they have four riders who are in contention for a win and between them and Husqvarna at least six others who could be in contention for a podium finish. Of all the other riders, Barreda is possibly they only one with a realistic chance of a win, if he can hold it together for once. Except for Rodrigues, Concalves and one or two others whose names escape me now, I don’t even see a possible podium finisher among the rest of the field unless something major happens like last year.
Why do things that only happen to stupid people always happen to me?

Guys, I saw a Navarra last Friday. Race prepped for Rally. Brand new. It was filling it's tank at the new total garage in Lanseria. Gunmettal grey with the number 3. 2 guys with race shirts and headphone comms on to test the beast.
Anyone knows this van. Looks like it's ready for the Dakar...

Is this perhaps the one you saw? It competes in the local series.

The one in the photo is gunmetal when seen in the flesh. It was built by Red-lined Racing. I had a look and they built 3 production class Navaras for Dakar last year. The Toyotas are built by Hallspeed. I am doing some work for one of their suppliers at the moment.

Any dogs going to follow the Dakar route on their bikes? I just completed coding the export documents for five KTM 990’s, 1190’s and their kit, going to South America early next year.
