Any dogs going to follow the Dakar route on their bikes? I just completed coding the export documents for five KTM 990’s, 1190’s and their kit, going to South America early next year.

potential future alien:
"Few rookies will turn as many heads as Iván Cervantes in the motorcycle category. After years of dominance in the world of enduro, the Spaniard is ready to clash with the elite at the Dakar, where he will be racing for Team Himoinsa."

"Due to forecasts concerning the El Nino weather phenomenon, which is expected to be extremely violent this year, the Peruvian government has decided to make this issue a national priority by ensuring that all state services are able to mobilize if necessary to help the population that could be affected.
While hoping that the people of Peru will not have to face these predicted disasters, the entire Dakar organizing team is already hard at work to create an alternative route with optimal sporting and safety conditions both in Argentina and Bolivia."

What is not mentioned here is the fact when El Nino hits, it rains ALL THE TIME on the Amazonian side of the Andes. This could mean a very, very wet Dakar indeed.

Rally nut. What could possibly go wrong?

Today is the day:
"On 18th November, the presence of the main players on the Dakar 2016 is expected in Paris, to attend the detailed presentation of the route and list of competitors. Now on the other side of the fence, Marc Coma will welcome the other title holders (Al Attiyah in the car category, Sonik in the quad category and Mardeev in the truck race), but also outstanding debutants such as Sebastien Loeb or Mikko Hirvonen…"

I'm sure security is going to be pretty tight in Paris . . .

Wessel Bosman is going to give it another go  :notworthy:  Of course, depending on whether ASO accept his entry.
From his FB page on 9 November:

"Xavier Gavory... start framing our "20 dollar contract"
...never thought I would ever get an entry to a Dakar again...somehow I become the luckiest person and got an entry... never thought I would recovered 100%... somehow I did... never though to make it financially... three days ago it was still impossible...
...and now I am flying in two days to Venice, Italy to get my bike to Le Havre in France to put it on the Dakar vessel to the 2016 Dakar...
Xavier...there is still the impossible mountains, deserts and heights to pass before I can claim the 20 dollar bank note... and many don't understand why it is impossible for me not to try...
You wrote me a short mail...and be it from you, that saw every victory, sadness, glory or tears from the best of the best riders and drivers in the world...I have to share it, then people will understand why it is impossible for me not to try the impossible again...
So, here is why a 20 dollar note have a priceless value!
(A mail in July...a few days before the closing date of the 2016 Dakar...)
"Hi Wessel,
Good to read from you.
Thanks for the letter. I’ll forward it to Marc and Etienne.
It is late for the entry, but not too late. You still have until the 15th to register and send us your proof of payment.
You do not take any risks since the 4k€ deposit will be paid back in case of bad news.
I cannot say/promise your registration will be accepted since it will mainly depend on the overall sporting “level” of the applications this year, and depend on Marc’s new vision of the process.
However, your physical strength and the reasons why you were too slow last edition will play in your favor.
If I were you, I would try Wessel. I still have your 20 box bank note on my desk. If you are accepted, I’ll give it to you next January. If you are not, nothing is lost since you managed to get back on a fantastic physical condition, and that you will always remain a Dakar adventurer, with a true spirit and a real physical and mental strength.
All the best Wessel.
Best regards
Xavier "

Some more from Wessel:

"Landed in Paris on Thursday, 12...Friday, 13 a terrible day in Paris with the bombings... today in Venice... took my Rally bike for a ride in the country side of Italy...leaving tomorrow for Switzerland and then Paris for loading the bike for the Dakar...if possible"

That's a funny way to mount the Sentinel buzzer. I guess when you know you are going to be slow, put the buzzer in a place where you'll hear it for sure when those blerry huge trucks come up from behind....

What does the $20 promise mean?

Was he given a short straw at some place that Xavier then made a promissory note out to him?
Somedays, life's like a middlemannetjie.

Whoohoo . . . kid in a candy store (again)
I am not even sure how well I'll be able to follow the 2016 edition, but I'll make every plan I can!

I don't see Wessel on the Competitors List for bikes on Dakar.com , but will keep faith that he will appear there soon!!
Kobus is number 125!!!!

Then there are the 3 quad-sters and 2 cars from ZAF!! Did I spot all of them or am I missing someone?

and...
My number is 130...
and..
For the first time ever the country LESOTHO will be at the DAKAR!
...a journey...a reality..a RACE-2-DAKAR..."

Mr Coma:
"I promise you, as a rider and multiple winner of this event, kak like you see in this slide will never happen again, EVER! Read my lips"
(OK, he never said that, I'm making it up)
