Hey hey hey - what's that saying? Youth and skill is no match for old age and treachery? Watch yer back
This photo was taken after Yamaha swept the MX championships in 1983.
From left, that's Gary Bergstrom (they were 4 brothers as I recall) 125cc champ , Brett Redman 125 cc junior champ, his father is Phil Redman, who was a road racing world champion in 1965 ??
Rex Staten - he now has a huge plumbing business in California. I've seen him around a few times, like at last year's MX national when Grant Langston won the US nationals. Ole Rex is not as big as he looks here for some reason. Maybe cause I'm 1,97

Alfie Cox, say no more. The man is a legend.
Stuart Beattie, he raced 500's. His younger brother Hylton was in bike squad demo team in 1981 when I was there and he now lives in the US, he's a rep for a big parts distributor in Virginia
Charlie Tissen is in Los Angeles, he is the rep for K+N air filters, my CT buddy Jody sees him all the time. We've been trying to hook up for a braai and kakpraat but we all work strange schedules so it's difficult. Charlie rides a souped-up XR 650 now

Some of the other yanks who raced in SA then were Jim Tarantino, I've read that he still lives in SA, Andy Jefferson who was the first really succesful black motocross racer (he's older than Bubba Stewart's father

) and Larry Wosick, who lived in SA for many years after racing there in 1983 and now owns a big MX track in northern California.
Here's a shot I took at Back of the Moon, north of Pretoria, in 1983 I believe. Rex Staten and Russell Campbell going at it.

OK enough nostalgia, I have lots of packing to do
