You wont look funny, I look like a normal bloke on a 450 when on the 690.  But the leg space is limited and expensive to fix.  If you have short legs, this is no issue.

Mmm I'll start looking for a decently priced oryx. I suppose gearing can be tailored for rides. I like the idea of lower running costs on the 690. They are usually lighter on fuel than the 990 counterparts and with a 16t front and rallye type setup cruising  at 150 should not really be a problem.

Problem is that most of them in the market have about 20k km on.

I'm 6.3 weighing in at around 97kg and love this bike. No problem with top end with a 16 sprocket but don't think it was build for that kind of speed IMO. Am about to put new spring in the back cause its a bit soft but the front with two 5 litre tanks upfront is good. On more then one occasion of spend a day in the saddle and it runs really well.

Steve, look around for a well-priced "R" around 2010, buy and ride it. If it does not suit your taste, not a big loss.

It is an amazing motorcycle, and the harder you ride them, the better they work. In fact when dawdling along the Karoo roads, my 19voertsek XT600 is a better bike,
better packing space, better small-ripple suspension, and MUCH smoother low-rev cruising.

The "rally-look" is also a point with which I would not go, the wind protection will be great, but the added crash-damage risk and also weight I find going directly against what the 690 stands for. This is of course each owner's own choice.

The 690, for a single, is surprisingly powerful, yet I have gotten 25.3 km/lt as a personal best a few weeks ago, downhill from Sutherland/Ouberg/Ceres.

I find it not too uncomfortable on long roads.

Dankie vir die advies.  Was al die niggles gesort op die 2010 modelle?

I'd personally look at a 12-13 model. Less issues and of course, 690cc vs 654cc. The 2011 and 2010 bikes had better suspension apparently
