After a fantastic weekend in the kloof, Sunday morning arrived with HEAVY mist in the area.
We pack up the wet tents and get going.

Today Jupiter will take me across the mountain to Kareedouw on the 4x4 route.

We say our goodbyes, saddle up the heavily loaded donkeys and away we went.

It is wet, misty and not easy going.  After a while Gerard stopped.  Do you want to carry on in these conditions or do we turn back and take the easy way out.

Never, I came this far to do these rides and NOU GAAN ONS RY...  :ricky: :ricky:

We made it to Kareedouw, but with a slip and a slide here and there... luckily no fall.

After a quick toasted sarmie and some coffee we get on the road through the Lankloof.  I think this is the first time in my life I am riding this section of tar.

Some people just cannot KEEP GOING and at the Klip Hotel we had to stop for some coffee again  :imaposer:

About 70 km before George I went over to reserve.  The riding in the mountains must have making the bike a bit thirstier than normal.
Jupiter carrying 28 liters to my 23 liters did not have a problem.

Luckily we found a garage on the road and I could fill her up again.  A quick chain lube for both bikes and off to George.

In George Jupiter filled up and when I wanted to say my goodbyes he insisted that we finish our ride together with another coffee.
Coffee ended up with a waffle for me and some brownies for him at the Dros.

Our paths split up and he went to his daughters place and I went off to Kosies place.

Kosie and Jakkals are friends. I wanted to spend some quality time with Kosie and his wife, but this was interrupted with a visit by the JACKAL and my daughter.

We had a good time and Kosie had a pork belly on the coals.
Thanks Kosie and thanks to your wife for the lovely food.

Two year ago when we attended the EC-Bash, my wife flew to PE.  We did the EC-Bash and left the Sunday doing the Avontuur and Kom se pad routes.  We planned to do the 7 passes, but time run out and we had to drop her at the George airport for her flight back home.

So this time I said I will doe the 7 passes.

At the Bash RAT introduced me to his friend Greg that works at the Knysna Bike shop.  He might have a speedo drive for me. So I rode the 7 passes road to Knysna.... another bucket list ticked.... now I will have to go back an show the family this road in the near future.  :ricky:

In Knysna Greg did not have the right part, but we changed and indicator bulb for free,   :thumleft:  Thanks guys.

I had some breakfast and off onto the Avontuur road.

Sections are BAD and not a pleasure to ride, but the scenery makes up for it.

I passed Uniondale and in Willomore filled up.  Phoned Jakkals and he let the hotel in Klipplaat know that the mayor of Brakpan will be arriving and a room must be reserved.

Certain sections were gravel Highway, with a paths here and there a bit rough.

When I got to the Charles Hotel in Klipplaat Johan came out and greeted me like royalty.

Had a couple of dops and for supper he served me tjops and chips.

Something that was obvious at this place is that Jakkals frequents this place and for service rendered he give the lady a cheap T-Shirt.  :pot: :peepwall:

I had to take a picture of the BAR dog taking a nap.  Looks like he passed out in his little bed.  :imaposer:

The next morning I had a BIG breakfast... 3 eggs and all.

The porridge plate still has the Klipplaat Logo on it... show how posh the old establishments were back in the days.

Novel idea was the vinyl records used as table mats.

The whole place have these big blokkies floors.  I hope that if this place keeps on going for years and years, but if not please phone me to come and collect all of these floors before somebody uses it for firewood.

Next morning again a lot of mist making it difficult to ride on the dirt roads.  I like to see where I am going and want to look ahead to plan my line of riding.

Before Kendrew it cleared and I got into the ride again and enjoying the scenery.  Even stopped to take some pictures of the old abandoned homes that my wife wanted me to take pictures off so that she could paint them.

In Kendrew I filled up with petrol again.  At the service station they have some old Garage equipment like the oil can press and the tyre changing equipment.

From Kendrew I headed towards Pearston and then across the Swaerhoek Pass and later the Maraiskloof Pass.  The first was nice and smooth, but the second one I would not recommend if it was raining.  One section one could see that some bakkies really struggled up there.  Deep red clay and lots of ruts are evident of this.

Getting to Cradock and still under Jupiters influence of stopping every hour or so for coffee. I got to the Wimpy for my fix.

I still had to get to Jan-Harms place near Venterstad, so no more dirt riding for the day and I klapped it..... at 4500 rpm... towards Hofmeyer and Steynsburg.

At Venterstad I filled up again and then rode out to the farm 15 km out of town.

As I approached the farm I saw some activity at the kraal and rode up to a very friendly chap that greeted me like a long lost brother.

He was busy loading sheep but quickly took me down to the house to settle in.

I had a nice shower while he finished off his activities on the farm.

Only later I found out that this man is a former Springbok rugby player.

That evening his neighbor joined us for the braai.....and what a braai it was. Some VERY THICK T-bones as starters and lots of the best chops in the world..... I even had some krummelpap.

Turns out Jan-Harm is a knife collector, and on his farm he has a lot of OLIEN wood and he makes the most amazing knife boxes from this beautiful wood.  A real artist and that is why we got on so well.... the love of wood brought us together.

Thank you Jan-Harm and family for a WONDERFUL evening.... and all the Kudu biltong that you gave us.

During the evening I had a look at my maps and saw that there are not many attractions left to go and explore, so the decision was made to hit the road all the way back to Brakpan in one go.... all 690 km of it.  Mammie wag nou al lankal alleen by die huis.  :imaposer:

I rode over the longest bridge near Bethulie, then on to Smithfield and Reddersburg to Bloemfontein.
From Bloemfontein I got onto the N1.  Was a bit worried that at 4500 rpm I would encounter big trucks bearing down on me.

So I did the 5000 rpm trip and passed ALL trucks and 4 cars with ease.

At 15h30 I stopped at the house after a WONDERFUL 4015 km trip with an awesome bike.

Thanks to my wife that let the dog loose to go and explore and thanks to the Lord that kept me safe on all the roads.

Thank's for all the generous dogs that offered accommodation, info, help and tour leading during this amazing trip.

Thanks to this forum that brings us together....  WANNEER GAAN ONS WEER RY !!!! :ricky:
