Dawn to Dusk - extreme enduro - ride report
« on: May 17, 2015, 06:40:01 pm »

Dalton was the instigator, I wouldn't easily drive 700km there and 700km back for a one-day ride.

Yes, Dawn to Dusk happened on and over and around the hills and valleys near Pinetown (KZN) in the
Nagle Dam area and for a Bloemie it is a long way to drive. Cat out of the bag it was worth it for sure!

I'm not into racing though I participate in a few events that might qualify. This one I think wasn't
a race but I post here because it felt like the best place for it. Think they call it " a navigational enduro".
Certainly there are a whole bunch of okes in a hurry to complete the route before the end of the day...

Our beautiful country have some of the most spectacular riding terrain in the world and KZN is well
known in the sport of Enduro as a riding Heaven. For me it was the first time so far East.

There were two route options. I chose the one that had a nice ring to it and was the best candidate to
keep me busy all day. Value for money you see?

The mass ride from the camp to the start.

Dalton de Bruin, the instigator.

Me riding my beloved David (300XCW).

The start.

All these pictures were taken 50m from the start line. Total pandemonium! Dalton said afterwards: " dit was los
hande die kakste start wat ek ooit gesien het". I thought it was appropriate. The rocks was quite slippery though.

David and I skimmed across without incident, passing almost everyone that started ahead of us, and stopped on
the opposite bank to take these pictures.

A lovely hill climb led out of the river and some awesome downhills followed. Then it was smooth cruisin'.

Nagle Dam.

There were lots and lots of this sort of stuff along the +- 80km route.

Bush riding GALORE!!!

Then a bit open stuff.

AWESOME!!! Just BLOODY AWESOME!!!

Then came the first real challenge. Billy Goat Hill. I kakked off just ever so slightly.

Dalton. The boy has got style.

I asked him to pose like this. In truth he is an real talented rider and far fitter/stronger than I can hope to be.
This is what I looked like grinding my way up Billy Goat.

Some other riders having fun fun fun!

David and I have found euphoria! In the thick air David was running like a pig through shit!
and I was as happy as a pig in shit!

In fact, spending time with the lovely English people of Pinetown I picked up new phrases in their language.
This one describes the day best: David is my boney, he's got pluck!

Picture taken at the refuel point.
