Here is a link to accomodation.  There are 250 stands.  I am sure it will be enough for us.   :)

Hey Guys!
I may still be a newbie, but I can offer the following ...
My parents own a small farm about 13km from Eiland. The farmhouse only has 2 double beds and 2 single beds so we'll only be able to sleep 6 people. Your own sleeping bag and cushion is also required as we cannot leave bedding there due to it being the favourite thing to steal around there. For the more hardcore camping guys, there is a bit of space on the fairly big lawn, with an outside flush toilet and hot water shower. Very basic, but fun.

I've also just returned from a trip there and found a place that looked like a good Wild Dog spot. It's in the old ghost town of Leydsdorp. It's not too far from Letsitele and you have to drive a bit of dirt road to get there. (Probably not a problem ...  ;D ) Also, it has a LOT more atmosphere than Eiland. I talked to the old guy that seemed to be running the place. They have nice bar and restaurant there and can sleep 6 couples and 2 singles, so 14 people in total. We were only there for a quick stop so I didn't sample the food, but the beer was nice and cold! It sounded like it would only cost R1500.00 to book the entire place. I didn't have a look at the facilities, but judging from the well stocked bar, they should be fine.

I suck at organising stuff so I'll just post their details here ...

Dick & Hannetjie Welman
Lodge, Restaurant & Bar
Luxury accomodation in historic Gold Rush Town

Phone/Fax (015) 318-4466
Cell - Dick (079) 478-3457
Cell - Hannetjie (072) 069-1797

Even though I'm probably at bit late to help donate, I would also like to join in on the ride!

Wow Wagter, this is sounding like our type of place.

Stephan just send me the Tarrifs letter from Eiland and let me tell you the list of rules are a whole A4 page long.

The rest of the pack - what do you say?  Leydsdorp??

Ok - am speaking to Louise.  I am trying to obviously organise a personal tour, personal chat about how she came to be doing this and how it has grown and all of that good stuff.

Maybe should organise something to the Lion Park Sanctuary down here in Cape Town at the same time?

Red is going big with research at stuff about free ranging WD.  If you know her, this will be big and thorough - she never thinks small ;D

Expect something big coming from this.  The ride will be cool.  Any CT people thinking of joining?

Ok - just received this mail from Louise at Sanwild (see, doing good can and will make you famous):

Dear Lejane

This is great news, thanks for your perseverance.  I fully agree, one cannot always have everyone like you, but in general it is good to see people taking animal welfare and rights a whole lot more serious.

I would be happy to meet with them the 24th and we will also make a light lunch available to them along with a talk and introduction to SanWild.  We still do intend release the dogs and their R10 000,00 will go towards setting the dogs free by upgrading perimeter fences.

Pls let me know how many people we should expect and I will also arrange a reporter from a local newspaper and will issue a press release and statement to larger paper like die Beeld ect.  Riding through the reserve with bikes might be a problem, but I am sure we can discuss this and if they drive slowly I am sure we can let them drive up to the main camp at least.  I will also find out from SABC news if they are interested in doing the story - good PR for us and you.

Kind and warm regards
Louise

Isn't this fabulous fabulous news?

It's sooooo exciting !

WOW!!!  Thanks EV.  This is sounding better by the minute.  Thumbs-up to you!

Will you let Louise know we will be there at lunchtime on the 24th?  I will get the ball rolling with the rest of the stuff.

I have spoken to Dick at Leydsdorp and they have place available.

The lodge have 7 double rooms and he's got no problem with people camping on the lawn "if they are brave enough for the Bushveld" to quote him verbatim.  All bedrooms have double beds apart from one which has 2 single beds.

He made another suggestion as well.  There is a game farm 3km away from him sleeping 20 people in the hunting camp.  He will phone so long to hear if they are open on the 24th.  I just love people in the country!!

He need numbers though.  Here is how I have it at the moment.

Adventurer & Peaches
Aquatic & the Ms.
Kilroy
Zerc
Panne
Red
Stephan
Ryperd & Jockey
Gryshond?
Bemmer Man?
Lourens.dL?
