Just completed Old BMW sidecar
« on: June 20, 2015, 09:00:05 am »
Just completed this old timer today. The BMW rides surprisingly well and was originally designed to take a sidecar with leading link forks, steering damper etc. The sidecar also has a brake that works together with the rear brake of the bike...

Classic - I can not, for the life of me, get the picture the right way up - I even rotated it upside down and then loaded it but no cigar so you will have to either stand on your head or turn your computer upside down to view it properly... :)

Looks good Humfree! Give us some history. How old is she?
The older I get, the earlier it gets late

Wow, a stunner. LHD. Is it difficult to overtake ? Saw a similar one in George a couple months ago. Also LHD.

Just about the same width as the Ural. Me thinks the angle of the photo makes it look wider... :o

Great observation though, as the wider the sidecar rig, the more difficult and cumbersome it becomes to ride and turn due to the yaw effect from the sidecar on the motorcycle - there is a sweet spot somewhere as if you build the rig too narrow it will not be stable to ride...

LHD is a real pain in the ...you know where.... I drove Hubert's  (www.thetimelessride.com) LHD Ural for a while while he was here in SA and it was a real pain...
