Does new vehicles still need to be run in?

I would guess you use it like you please so issues can surface and be fixed asap..

Yes , and vary your speed and gearing.

Somebody advised me that it is a good thing to run it , against engine compression ( closed throttle ) on the downhills ..... I understand that helps to seat the rings properly.

Exactly as the Salesperson should have explained, or as described in the owners manual.

This is what I was told to do which I have done and found my GS's always ready to rev to redline. I do lot of roll on roll off in 6th gear from 60km/h to 120km/h, and keep it in 6th. At around 500km/h I moer it flat taps for a short while, then ride at 120km for another few km. At 750km I do this again for at least a km or two got 217 in road mode. I tried not to go over 5000 rpm but difficult as you will find out, the speed is just under 160km/h. I did not have to top up any old before my 10k service.  Hope this helps.

Thanks guys jep agree with dealer and manual but they can be a bit less than accurate like "just take it easy and don't keep constant rpm." I like to do it absolutely the right way so I get the best opportunity to have hassle free Kms thereafter...had a Honda 600 f4 out of box years ago and guys told me to hammer from new then it would perform...a powerful little beast I sold it before it killed me,and no I didn't hammer it from new....thanks for the responses
