Highest situated building in South Africa

The highest situated building in South Africa
Yesterday, in my facebook group 'Architecture South Africa' I posted about the oldest building in South Africa, the Castle of Good Hope.
Today Iím on a similar quest, but the answer is somewhat elusive. I am looking for the building on the highest place in South Africa. Note, I am not looking for the tallest building, a quick Google search will help us there, I am looking for the building that is situated higher above any other building. Iíve got Google stumped, so let us start exploring and see what if the Wild Dogs can help me out for my facebook group.

Mmmmm. Very interresting.  :thumleft:

Belfast, Mpumalanga, might be a good starting point. It is the highest town in South Africa at 1970m ASL.
People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. And doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something.

Could be one of the communication towers as they are on mountain tops for line of sight comms.

My Guess would be the stone mountaineer hut above Tugela falls, near mont aux sources.

Edit: 3000M above sea level according to http://www.altitude.nu/

Well, if it is the highest town ASL, then obviously that answers the OP's question, right?

Well, there might be a building somewhere, like an old fort or a Hotel, that is standing somewhere between fokol and nerens in the Maluti or Drakensberg Mountains?

That is what I mean. So switch on your heated grips, put on your winter gear and let's try to find one.

Conflicting stories on Wikipedia, Dullstroom is also in the running to be the highest town. Their train station is 2077m above sea level and Belfast is apparently 2025m?

Yes, let's exclude Lesotho for now. Getting all the huts in those high mountains checked might be an issue. Unless you are looking for a reason to take your GPS for a ride, then feel free.   :lol8:

Tiffendell resort is 2810m above sea level.

And it's in SA.
How can I be lost if I've got nowhere to go?

That hut is now no longer in use, but still there.
I would go with Tiffendell

What about the Stone Hotel out towards Ben McDui, close to Tiffendel?

Edit - was thinking about Tenahead Lodge.
Loosely stated as being at 2500m
