Last minute questions!
« on: July 30, 2015, 01:08:49 pm »
Hi guys

We are leaving for a trip up Africa in about 4 weeks.
I have a few questions Ė hoping to get some insightful answers

First:
We will be traveling 30-000km. 15-000 km up to Sudan and 15-000km down again. Around halfway we will need new tyres. Problem is halfway will be Sudan. I heard somewhere that you can get new tyres at JJís in Kenya.
Can anybody confirm that?
Or can anybody inform me if it is possible to get tyres higer North that Kenya?
Im looking for something decent like Heidenaus K60.

Second:
I want to confirm because I am getting conflicting information.
Can you get the Uganda VISA at the border or do you need to get the visa in SA

Third:
To get our Ethiopian visas they are requesting that we either show proof of our accommodation booking and/or a letter of invitation. Obviously we have neither. Iím sure there is a really simple solutionÖ??

Fourth:
Canít think of a fourth now but Iím sure it will come to me soon enough!

Thanks!!!  :)

Hi. See if you can find a business by the name of "Schumachers" in Kenya, on the Internet. Do not know if they stock bike tyres but will be your best bet for assistance If you battle to get contact numbers please get back to me and I can see if any of my previous collegues will help. Few times I ahve been to Uganda got Visa stamped in Passport at the border and the Airport, no problem. Ugandan's are very courteous people.

Any time. Should you need some more information feel free to ask. We have spend eight years in East Africa and travelled it extensively, not much by bike but with the Land Rover and Suzuki. Even been up from SA to Dar and back, twice from Nairobi to Kampala and a lot in Kenia and Tanzania itself. Obviously did a lot of flying, as passenger, between the Countries.

Thank you. Quite a bit of blood, sweat and good tears. Presently in Mozambique and on to Zambia

Contact Wims Holland House, In Addis, see if they will give you a letter, or proof of accom? Lots of overland travellers stay there.

Maybe you can courier tyres to them as well??

Visa for Uganda easy at border.
