Pine Lake Marina and surrounds
« on: May 09, 2008, 12:12:21 pm »
Let me start this off with an apology.  We did 4 300km for the week, with only 350km on dirt. But as you continue to read here, you will understand why.

We received a call from a friend early in January asking if we are joining them.

"Joining you where?"

"We're riding down to Pine Lake Marina, Sedgefield last weekend in April. So you joining us?"

"Yes, why not!"

So it was settled. Thanks to Uncle Thabo the wife only had to put in 2 days leave, and all was set.  Our group consisted out of -
 * Leon - Aprilia Capanord
 * Gretchen - Aprilia Tuano
 * Danie & Val - Aprilia Capanord
 * Morkel - Moto Guzzi Breva 750
 * Jockey - BMW 650 GS
 * Perd - KTM

We left Pretoria @ 06:00 Saturday 26 April, heading down the highway to the Blockhouse stop on the R59, where we met Adventurer & co on their way to see Plottie on a GS.

Breakfast was had @ the Wimpy, and the final route was discussed.  We will follow the country tar roads through the Free State, passing little towns that are almost forgotten en route to Aliwal North where we were booking in at a B&B.

We stopped in Wepener for lunch, what an experience.  An old bar stocked to the roof, some afrikana history.

We did about 750km for day 1.

The B&B in Aliwal was great.  The underfloor heating was on, the electric blankets were on, alles when we arrived moeg.  The bar was great, and so the food.

The next morning we left after breakfast, heading to Burgersdorp, Graaff-Reinet, Oudtshoorn, George, Sedgefield.

But that is for later...

But you guys can moan like old women with wet panties!!! >:D

Day two was started with the knowledge that we will ride through the Karoo.... boring!! Especially because no dirt was allowed.  :(  However, we did see some marvelous churches along the route.

And traveled through towns I did not know exist

The church of the trip down was in Graaff-Reinet

Some action shots.

Danie & Val

Morkel

Jockey

Gretchen

Leon

The next time I'm going through this town, I will get dirty

Outeniqua pass is a lekka pass, and I did not mind riding it again, and again....

Needless to say, we arrived @ Pine Lake Marina in the dark

And this was our Sunday, 750km again.

Time for new popcorn Goose & co  ;)

Day 3

Today we spent riding around Sedgefield & Knysna, doing the tourist thing.

Jockey keeping an eye on me  8)

The heads

We even found Welsh

Day 4

Off to do some dirt!!

Flood damage

It was quite dusty!

Day 5
Some more tourist stuff

Danie playing chess with Ronnie

On our way back the tail bag on Gretchen's Tuano came off and got stuck between the rear wheel & body!!  :o

The mark on the road as she stopped the bike (or the bike stopped her?) - no falls, all well.

This is how a new rear looks after that

Day 6 was spent riding up to Michnus for a kuier - no pictures taken.

Day 7 was spent riding back to Aliwal - the wind was kark, the weather cold and we pushed for a hot shower and some port!!

Day 8 - home. What a day.  We had rain, hail, strong head wind all the way. Not nice.

The end.  ;)
