Rim buckle on 1200GS LC
« on: August 03, 2015, 03:54:21 pm »
I buckled my rim quite badly a few weeks ago on a ride to Sutherland, I took it to some dude in Stikland and they could not get it right. I was then at the GS trophy trials and met Ruan who was part of the SA team that came second in the last GS trophy. He told me he has a guy that will fix the rim. I though ya right, but what do I have to loose! New whole wheel R15k and new pouter rim with spoking it was R6k. I got the wheel back and it is 100%, I could not believe it. Cost was R890 from Ruan. He is that Cape Bike hire place in Buitengracht street in Cape Town. I can look for his card if anyone needs the exact address. Really worth making a note of this.

I agree.  This is the type of info that we need on a sticky somewhere (without breaking rules about vendors etc.)
I started biking as an under achiever and it went downhill from there...

I will add to this list: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=125973.0, but am having issues with the "more than 2000 characters" warning.

Sorted

This is the first rim I have buckled on a 1200GS. I hit quite a nasty culvert. I was told it was due to the width of the new LC rim, the wider the rim the weaker it becomes! It sort of sounds logical to me.

Question. I read somewhere that the profile of the new wider tyres are lower, thus causing the problem of bending rims. Is this true?

The rims on the LC are apparently not as robust as on the previous GS. Combination of wider rim and lower profile tyre.
