USB Charger for LC
« on: August 07, 2015, 12:44:56 pm »
Hello to all.

Chaps I am looking for a Hella plug to USB charger, lets say with a 1m cable. Want to be able to charge cell phones on long bike trip. Will plug into onboard socket on bike dashboard and then put phone into tank bag.

Who has a setup like this, where did you get it? Hopefully a Durban Dog has info.

Cheers.

Andy F thanks for reply .

Can these units be used to charge Apple Iphone 6.

Apple is full of shit when it comes to charging, wont recognise some charging points.

Any body on a 1200LC charging apple Iphone and Ipad on long trips?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers.

I bought a normal cigarette socket with a wire on it from Game. It was a few years ago, i think it cost something like R45. Put a Hella plug (R20) on the end of the wire and use a normal cigarette USB charger. I bought a dual USB port (not sure of the cost). One port is 1amp and the other 2.1amp. Charges my iPhone 5s and iPad 4 no problem.

I plug it into the socket next to the dials on the bike and the other end into my handle bar bag where my phone sits as well.

Look at www.4x4direct.co.za. They also have a neat dual port USB charger that you'll just need to connect to your battery of the bike. I bought one the other day to fit to my camping trailer.

Bought myself a hella plug and a standard female cigarette socket with a 20cm flex cable in between. Works like a charm, plug hella into socket next to gauges, rung the lead into my handlebar bag and keep phone on charge while i ride.

LEKKER.

SGB does this attachment from Safari 4x4 just plug into the female one on the bike without any conversion? If so and excuse my ignorance, why can you not find an adapter to use for your compressor, I am told you have to have a converter of some sorts and rewire... as you see I know shit about this stuff!

Lol.
Depending on the compressor being used, most compressors will pull more than 5amps. The problem is that the standard hella socket on the  GS will only allow up to 5amps to be pulled.
Thus simpler and easier just to get another socket wired in with a fuse to the battery.
