DRZ400E - Keihin FCR parts diagram error
« on: August 14, 2015, 08:47:50 am »
I've recently been doing a bit of work on my brothers 2006 DRZ400E.

While reassembling the carb (Keihin FCR), i noticed an error in the parts diagram for the carb.
Both my Clymer manual and the online parts fiches have the same erroneous diagram.

Part No. 8, the vacuum release plate, is shown in the wrong orientation.
It should be rotated through 180 degrees, as per my pencil correction.
I'm pretty sure the bike would not be happy if this plate was fitted as per the manual.

If you compare the throttle valve plate with the throttle valve, it appears to be correctly orientated in the manual. ???

Is the carb already assembled? Some close ups would be nice! :thumleft:

bikes already back up and running.
check the pic below... the hole in the vacuum release plate should be positioned at the bottom of the slide (not the top, as per the suzuki diagram).

On the manual's diagram it looks correct, if you compare the outline/shape of the two items, but as you have observed the hole is not in the correct position. Well done!

Was your brother's DRZ carb the correct way?

the shape of the release plate is not symmetrical about the horizontal axis (concave on one end, convex on the other).

i did a little test for interest sake.
if you fit the release plate incorrectly (as per the manual), the throttle slide does not move all the way down.
it sits in a part throttle position (throttle spindle does not rest on the stop screw).
my guess is the bike would start fine, but would idle at like 4000rpm.

Sal jy bietjie post asb!

Ek het 'n DRZ 400 gekoop. Het die FCR 39, met die skuins slide. Nie MX nie.

Oorweeg dit om hom dalk op te sit.

Eintlik die DRZ vir die vurke gekoop.

The common FCR error is the upside down plate.  Ask ZA...

Well spotted.

If you want to haul ass, you gotta mix gas.

Runs really crappy at low rpm , lots of backfiring on closed throttle and big flat spot at small throttle openings .
