Kaapsehoop info needed
« on: September 10, 2015, 12:56:44 pm »
Will be in that area next week with my old man and as I have never been to Kaapsehoop, would like to go check it out and stay over one night.

Any info on nice places to stay and eat, things to do / see, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Places to stay:  Many.  Almost every 2nd house is a B&B of sorts.
Places to eat:  One or two places only.  I have tried both and enjoyed both.
Things to do:  Check out the wild horses.  Ride the twisties. Check out the Blue Swallows.  Ride the twisties. Walk to the incredible (comparable with God's Window) look out point.  Ride the twisties.

From Ngodwana to Kaapsehoop is about 11km.  You climb almost 1km!  Lovely!
From Nelspruit to Kaapsehoop is about 22km.  Beautiful road.

Just watch out for the wild horses when nearing Kaapsehoop.

Just go and find something when you arrive. As AMZ says- every 2nd house is a B&B

And if there isn't any accommodation available, try Bushveld Lodge further on along the road to Nelspruit. It will be cheaper too.
Why do things that only happen to stupid people always happen to me?

Should easily get accomondation upon arrival as the area is not that busy this time of the year. Otherwise Nelspruit is a backup only 30km's away.

As mentioned. Not too much. Can go on few hiking trails. Not that long. The lookout point and ride the area.

From Kaapschehoop towards Nelspruit there is a gravel road turnoff to the right which goes to Baberton. Can then also ride that area and up to Josefsdal Border post which is also a nice road for biking from what I've heard.

Enjoy the stay. Don't mind the smell lower down the mountain however.

Just a piece of unasked for advice.

Since you have never been to Kaapsehoop, do not change your minds once in the area and give it a miss.  It is well worth the visit.

Funny you should mention it as that was exactly what I did once when travelling via Baberton. Decided that it was getting late and that it was too much of a detour so I skipped it.

Actually the reason why I made a point of it to go see it this time.

How much time do you have?
The road from Baberton towards the Jacobsdal entry point is good, and if  you have time, there is a spectacular road hugging the Swazi border to the South, towards Ngwenya post. Mostly gravel, although last time I was there they were tarring bits of it.

Ride reports, books and more on my website.

Not much, unfortunately. Exploring that area is something I always wanted to do, but it has to wait for now.
