I'm off to Spain tomorrow! Camino de Santiago
« on: September 15, 2015, 06:16:37 pm »
My wife's' bucket list included the French/Spanish pilgrimage walk of the Santiago de Compostelo, an 800 kay walk that takes about 6 weeks. We don't have 6 weeks and settled on doing the last 300kays from Astorga to Santiago. Backpack weighs 7 kgs. Will be walking about 25 kays a day. Fark me. I can just make it to the toilet on a good day.
The sad thing is bad planning on my part. This coming weekend (whilst we're there) there is the WSB race at Jerez and the weekend after, the MotoGP round at Aragon. Obviously, (I) can't attend. Back in October hopefully speaking Spanish!

Enjoy mate! Jealous right now (well not about the walking, can't you hire a bike and be the "support vehicle" for your wife?

thought about that......she says that it wouldn't be in the spirit of things. I tried anyway. Looks like my new job as a Sherpa is about to start.

XC, like your sense of humour!

Ha ha! Good on you for trying.
A nice compromise would be a Segway (those things the security guards use at malls)
It's like walking, only it has two wheels and an electric motor.

At the very least how about a Mountain Bike?

I live on the route, pity I only saw it now.

Actually I live on ONE  of the routes. ;D

I am always amused to see accross Spain 50 million signs for the camino de Santiago. Every little town has one ;D Trust me, every 3rd road, track and path in Spain is the freakin Camino de Santiago. I think its a marketing ploy.
Rally nut. What could possibly go wrong?

A mate of mine did this a few years back as well and loved it. Apparently there's now a "Tankwa Camino" as well. He departs tomorrow to hike it, the 256km gravel road from Clavinia to Ceres.
What the attraction is there I have no idea, that road is so long and flat you can see your future in the distance  ???
