It seems that the ANCYL also doesn't want the etolls...

Pretoria - The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) will lobby the mother body in a bid to have e-tolls scrapped, secretary general Njabulo Nzuza said on Thursday.

"The ANC is the organisation of the people and it should therefore listen to the people when they say they do not want e-tolls," he told reporters in Pretoria where the ANCYL was holding a four-day national executive committee (NEC) meeting.

"We must investigate other means to fund massive infrastructure projects that the ANC-led government has continued to carry out in the quest of improving the lives of our people," said Nzuza.

This was one of the policy issues the ANCYL would take to next week's National General Council (NGC) which will be held in Johannesburg.

Nzuza said the more than 2 000 delegates who attended the ANCYL national congress last month gave its new leaders a mandate to push the mother body into scrapping the e-tolling system.

He said the league wanted to "infuse" its ideas on the ANC so that they became policy issues.

The ANCYL would use the NEC meeting to strategise the local government elections, implementing its resolutions taken at congress and its position at the NGC.

Another key issue the league will be pushing at the NGC is a 40% representation of youth in all spheres of government starting next year with the local government elections.
