Cut-out issue
« on: October 02, 2015, 02:59:23 pm »
I recently experienced an ignition cut-out. Whilst riding hard up Longtom the bike cut out in a corner which almost resulted me to come off. I stopped and the bike idled infrequently high and then low and couldn't rev.
After switching off I managed to start the bike again and continued only to have the same issue a few kilometres on.
I stopped counting at 100 times from Longtom to Pretoria.
The bike went in to Zambesi Motorrad and it was found that the Throttle sensor and the Quickshifter were faulty. Both were replaced.
After approximately 400km the same problem occurred whilst riding in traffic, this almost resulted in a collision from behind.

The bike went back and Thomas was very helpful. Nothing wrong could be found and they decided to update the mapping.

After another 600km the same problem occurred again, this time it happened after riding at high speed around 200 km/h and it occurred 7 times in a distance of around 15km.

This is endangering ones life......... has anyone else experienced something similar?

Brand new bike.  He doesn't need to check anything.  BMW dealer must resolve.  They should have checked the battery first as well.

True.  But in my experience the battery is sometimes the cause of many electronic issues.  I also had cutout problems albeit on my previous bike.  Dealers did throttle bodies and all kind of other stuff.  Problem prevailed.  Iread here that it could be the battery.  I swopped it and the problem was gone.

I started biking as an under achiever and it went downhill from there...

Yep.  Had a similar issue with my 09.  Battery swop and issue gone.  The thing is, as I see it, his dealer should have checked that when they checked and worked on his bike.  If they didn't they are pretty useless.  On today's modern electronic marvels, the battery is the first thing that should be checked.  A battery is expensive and if the bike is under warranty, it needs to be replaced free of charge.

Battery was checked.
It is not a complete cut out, bike still idles but irregular, everything else works well, i.e flickers, gps, etc.

I was contacted yesterday through BMW SA to take my bike to the dealer to sort out the issue.
Hopefully this will be sorted as it remains in the back of your head that it might happen any minute.

Klink of die throttle se fly by wire communication verloor met die computer.

het dit al op n bakkie gehad.

Jy trap die pedal in en uit, maar hy idle net.
Complete system reset het dit uitgesort op die bakkie.

BMW SA contacted me and asked to take the bike to the dealer. Zambesi assisted and the throttle bodies and fly by wire was replaced again. Mapping done and so far (850km) no problem.  :thumleft:

It happened on the previous models that your boot touch the sidestand. Set the switch and problem solved.
