One might try and see if its feasible to add a 'lite' class.

This class:
  • will have a slightly different route
  • navigate by GPS track only (Danger points will be GPS WP's)
  • Will require a fuel range of only 150km

I love this idea, will definitely be interested. I always thought that the West Coast/Sandveld/Swartland might also be a good place for a Finke type event. 2 days of racing where the road is marked (if I'm correct).

Anyway, the lite class might be popular for people who don't have lots of funds or time. Good plan !!

We are likely to stay north of Garies as south and south-east on the coast they might still be peaved at rally after the NAR story.

Personally I think riding on a GPS track is more difficult than a road-book. You have to constantly be attend on your track, where with a RB you can 'wait' for the ICO to catch up to the next WP at least. But it is cheaper, both on the competitor and organizer. A single Amageza road-book scroll costs around R55 a scroll.

We will not mark tracks. Road-book and WP's for 'Rally' or GPS Tracks and WP's for 'rally-light' basically.

Can a 300 2T do 150km on a tank - my stock 450 can't.

You bring the coffee - I'll bring the biscuits  :thumleft:

Very unlikely, especially on the gas. My Beta has a 9.5l tank and I'll be luck to get 80km's on it, less in sand.

I'm loving this "Lite" idea though, it's sounding better and better  :thumleft:

I am in on the light Idea.

Have an XR 400 that is jumping up and down in anticipation.

Wont be innit to winnit but will be  a hell of a couple of days.

Know of allot of guys that would be keen with 300 2T's. Maybe with fuel stops?

Alex, just PLEASE try avoid a conflict with the Cape Epic dates, March is a huge cycling month in the Cape and plenty of offroad riders are involved there as well  :thumleft:

I'll buy a big friggen tank is I have to, or maybe a medium front and rear combo.  Might have to do a roadworthy, which will suck.

It will be called double espresso!

The dates have already been approved by MSA, both the West Coast Baja and 2016 Amageza Rallye. This means March it is. Sorry for those wanting to pay good money to do manual riding. Twist the grip this year rather man!  >:D

Regarding fuel for the lite category:
I was at the TDR in Jwaneng where they tried to have fuel every 80km. It was a flippen nightmare. Regarding the West Coast Baja, you're looking to change from one fuel-stop for 300km, you now have to have 4. This means:
  • 8 Marshals vs 2 for fuel
  • 4 vehicles dedicated to fuel vs 1

And no, its not possible to leave fuel in a fuel dump site. It will be gone in no time if unmanned.

Looking at what's required then for a normal plastic, will be a size bigger aftermarket tank, and a eTrex 10 GPS. That's about it. Seeing you will be on a shorter route with a stop every 3 hours or so (150km), you wont need the extra water tank, (although a good idea) but you'll require at least 5 liters of water on your back, for the GIC factor.
