For those of you that enjoy something a little more challenging, here's a mountain pass where you can use your riding skills to the full. This challenging pass straddles the border between the Western and Northern Cape deep into the upper reaches of the Biedouw Valley . Just getting there involves riding three other passes which include the Pakhuis, Hoek se Berg and Biedouw Valley passes. If you choose to ride this pass, the best time is August/September when the whole valley is carpeted in spring flowers, but getting through the river might well be problematic. Allow a full day as you have several options to complete a circular route back to Clanwilliam or you can head to Calvinia, Sutherland or Ceres. This is a recommended route for the less hurried traveller. There are plenty of farm gates to open and close and bikes can be ferried across the river on a small pont with ropes and pulleys. The road is better suited to a scrambler type bike than the big bikes.

During filming on 24th September, we came across two very tired bikers halfway up the pass who were very close to leaving their bikes and hitching a lift with us. The video reveals all. Enjoy...
