The only thing that puts me off is maybe the short stroke motor, with a narrow ratio gear box  that produces all its power at the top end.  That's great for drag racing, but I'm not really interested in that.

The long stroke 610 motor is just so nice to ride over technical terrain.

So I'm actually more interested in those SWM models and that AJP PR7 which both use the Husky motor.

It produces peak power at the top yes but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any grunt. Have you ridden a 690cc version?

Yes I rode one briefly a while ago.

It was a lot of fun!

But it did t have quite the same low tractorbility of the 610, which is what I really like.

This thread is quiterer than I thought it would be, seems I'm one of the few people intrigued by the bike.

One thing I noticed is the 2 screws in the front tanks. I wonder why that is there, could it perhaps be a factory bolt-on fairing? :pot: :patch:

The other thing is the volume of the front tanks. I would geuss 4 L's each side, that would give you 21 L in total which is not shabby.

I think they are part of the fixing of the tanks - could be a bracket behind there?

I have not read all 6 or 7 pages, but hear is a concern i have...

I've seen the bike up close, and those (added...) FACTORY -AVAILABLE, AFTER-MARKET fuel tanks look VERY exposed, with a sharp edge just where the likely point of impact could be...

Any thoughts? Seems like they really WILL need crash bars?
Cheers

Would not worry about that, my 525 had an Acerbis 25L that had wings just like that and it was never a problem not even on single track in the bush.

Husky 701 is R120k

Small difference!

Pic from Advrider

The microfishe is also out apparently, so you can see what part number differ from the 690. Things like the tank bolts are the same and the rally raid fuel cap should also fit :thumleft:

Was at Biker's Warehouse to pick up some parts for the SM, so I asked the one guy if there is a 701 in the shop.

He said they should be receiving the first batch in January and that more than 20 of those units have already been sold.

I also have a Husky Mechanic mate trying to sway me to a 701.

After watching the VisorDown review of it over the weekend, I'm a bit disappointed.  They havent really changed as much from the 690 as I thought they would've.

Still the same ABS and engine mapping options, and you have to fiddle with something under the seat to change maps, not on the fly. And no rev counter. That just makes no sense when the 690 has a full dash.

What do you need a rev counter for? When it hits the limiter change gears, like we do on the SE's  :peepwall:
