(picture of GJ enjoying himself) my inner Scotsman says I wouldn't enjoy buggering up my chain and sprockets in dry sand like that one little bit!

You don't buy a bike like this to tour tar & gravel passes, that's what GS's are for  ;)
Present bikes: BETA 300RR, KTM 690, Yamaha WR250F

I read some speculation on Advrider that the new Duke engine might be in the 701 next year or maybe the year after. That should be a nice upgrade.

Once there's a second hand one on the market I will have to summon all of my self-restraint not to buy it!

Whats the difference between the duke 690 and the Enduro 690 that's in there now?

Completely different cylinder head with revolutionary extra balancer shaft and new rocker gear; rocker arms for the exhaust valves and finger followers for the inlet valves.

This design produces a smoother engine which can rev higher (1000 RPM more) and therefore produces more power (73 HP) and a bucket load more torque.

My understanding is that the difference in the 701 frame and the 690 frame is to accommodate the new Duke engine and will be fitted to that bike 2017 or 2018. The 690 will stay with the older design LC4 engine.

So no point in choosing the current 701 over the 690 unless you have 15K to throw away  :pot: :peepwall:

Eddy 2 Race has 2 Enduros and 1 SM on the floor. Sat on one now and the temptation is oh so big!

Does the 701 have the same false neutral between 5th and 6th issue the 690 has?

Fixed according to them and none of the first buyers have reported any issues.
