I hate them so!

But.....

Since I got my 990 I have been thinking, which in itself is a dangerous thing, and although I adore my KTM it is the kakkest commuter I have ever owned. She is just not built for it, kind of like trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer.

So, scooter as a commuter crept into my mind.

I want to get a T-max, but then the thoughts of sledgehammers return since my commute is but a 15km sprint. I kinda like the BWS, looks OK for a scooter but I am fat.

What does one do?

Indien ek vir so iets in die mark was sou ek beslis daar met ou Hanno @ Mad Macs gaan gesels het. Hulle smous hierdie SYM reeks.

I bought myself a 1999 Yamaha 80 cc 2 stroker scooter, had 700 km. Got 5000 km. Now, looks like a miniature bike lol, i weight 110 kg,get to work and back the last 4 years , no oil changes no shit , R 50 fuel for the month, but fot commuting the best for me, selling it now and getting a Bmw C1
Yes, the larger bike is used for long overland distances, but does not even heat up properly when going to work, so the scooter have to fill that gap

Hulle is bietjie styf nuut. Ek dink so by die 55k as ek reg onthou. Ek het so paar maande terug na 'n 2e handse een gaan kyk wat van Oos Londen af gekom het en hyt maar baie roes gehad

Ek shop self vir 'n klein scooter/commute fietsie. Sal my petrol van 500 na 50 rand per week af bring

Ek stel ook belang en sal die thread dop hou vir raad. Selfde met my 990, baie nice bike, maar vir gou iewers heen ry is hy n hand vol.

Hier is my bromponie - absoluut ONOORTREFLIK in die stadsverkeer. Ek ry hierdie 150cc SYM sedert Mei vanjaar. Het so 'n raps oor die R16 000 vir hom betaal. Ek ry elke dag 18 km in en uit Tshwane township middestad met hom. Ek gooi tans so ±R60 se petrol in elke 2de week. Vantevore het ek vir 4 jaar 'n GoMoto 150cc gery, maar die SYM se gehalte is BAIE beter in ALLE opsigte. Ek het GEEN begeerte om eerder op my DL1000 te wees op my daaglikse pendel nie. Dit maak geen sin nie!

En ek gee not-te-donner om waar ek die wind teen my voel waai nie

Very true.

But I hope that with the knowledge that I have a mega awesome 990 R parked in the garage that it will stop my testicles from retracting into my body when I swing my leg over a scooter.

I detest the things, but when you start thinking about it a years services on a 990 if you use it to commute will most probably pay off a scooter. And that is not even considering the difference in your fuel bill....

Buying another bike will be nice. A nice Triumph will suit me just fine....

...but that defeats the purpose. Want the cheapest option available but also not interested in Vuka's, MotoMia's and all those k@k. At the same time I won't be dropping 90k on a Vespa either, I would look horrible in skinny jeans.

Yamaha BWS 100 2T without a doubt.

Probably one of the most modifiable scooters out there with tons of cheap aftermarket "go faster" parts. Whip on a Pincus racing pipe and boom 20-30% more power immediately. Add a Malossi Multivar and fly clutch and the thing pulls off and goes like the klappers all while dead reliable and maintaining std barrel etc. Easy to get 100% more power out of it for around R6k which includes 28mm side slide carb, open airbox, racing pipe. Guys racing them in JHB with mods getting 400% more power reliably!!!

I am 6ft1 over 120kg and get 110 on a straight with that and use it to work when I don't feel like the KTM or car!! Ok sure it looks like I have a malignant growth coming out my ass, but a better lane splitter and nippy cheap mode of transportation is going to be hard to find. Keep in mind they stopped producing them in 2014 so they still pick up good prices.

definitely not in the 2T league. The 2 strokes go like stink and as I say cheaply and easily modifiable, the 4T I'm not so sure. Fund factor on the 2T is like the KTM u will love it
