Many years ago, when I was just getting back into off-road riding again, after a 20 year break - I entered a fun enduro in Matatiele with a friend. Enduro, MX, off-road, - I didn't know the difference. Those names didn't exist when I was younger.

Anyways, we arrived on time, me on my KLR and he on his 640 - the looks we got were priceless. If we hadn't traveled so far we would have got out of there fast.

BUT, we'd entered - we did it - we finished when many others didn't - rescued a rider with a bust wrist and even got prizes - so all was not lost.

It did, however, teach me to read the rules and not just assume ................

Matatiele should also ring a bell.

I have ridden the area many a time, and every time I do could not help wondering what lays over the hill, down the donga...so near and yet so far, and this to me is the ideal opportunity to scratch that itch.

Having been a WCOC club member for the past 6 years, I can vouch for the clubs ability to host such an event, with Clive involved, the track setting, the admin and ultimately the quality of the experience is a no-compromise , I have no doubt that it will be a worthwhile experience, you will definitely get your monies worth.

With 2 laaities in the mix I'm more pit boss than anything else, but for this - count me in   :thumleft:

FAAARK, there goes my chance of winning..  :imaposer: :imaposer: not that I would have a chance..

You know me dude - I don't like sweating much and have every intention to not start now.
I think the appeal of this ride is not only the format of the race, but also the terrain - I plan on working in a bit of sight seeing (of the blurry kind    :ricky: )

Listen here.. you riding without a sweat is me giving it flat taps slugging water and swearing.. don't be so modest.

I see your point though, its probably the chance to see parts of the Tankwa I haven't seen. Reminds me of the Pig Fest.

Was up in the Tankwa with Clive this past weekend, scouting the area, meeting farmers and landowners, finding suitable tracks, and must say it is a pleasure working next to Clive, who has absolute passion for this race! If anyone can make it work, he can. Was hard in the 40 plus degree heat, but definately worth it! Here's a few pics to wet the appetite for what you can expect.

From where i sit:
Pros:
Can ride a smaller plastic type bike with little in the way of Mods  (thinking 450X or WR450)
No Roadbook nonsense which means less risk of route setting stuffing up the experience
No roadbook means less costs (much less costs)
Can ride in a new area in a place i wouldnt ever likely get to see otherwise
Its not a Rallye so i dont have to invest so much in terms of time and money

Cons:
Its not a Rallye, (but to me, so what?)

I am in!

Definately - I was in the area about 5 weeks ago, it is huge, and was looking at the distant hills with new eyes since WCOC started the initiative.
You can go past it, but will never get to ride it.... it is private and off limits  :deal:  ..till Clive came along   :ricky:
