did a two day trip around Cedarberg/Piketberg/Agter Pakhuis Pass area, and finally visited a place I've seen on the map - the Ampitheater/Bushmans cave complex...
So MANY questions:
1. this once-thriving show-piece seems to have been abandoned - political decision?
I spend an hour there - completely alone, no sign of anyone having been there recently, gates open/unlocked, some small vandalism, etc?
2. were concerts once held there? the industrial-strength lights are still in place; all the smaller lights seemed to have been stolen...?
3. i can see the catering facilities/fridges/braai ovens, and reckon this place could hold easily 500 persons for a function - has anyone been to a night-time function?
4. the black 'tar' seen in many of the pictures seems to be Dassie piss mixed with Dassie poop - I understand these little critters go back to a midden to poop, but surely they would not add to a sticky, congealed mess. Special smell that!
5. were any concerts held in the 'real' amphitheater up and behind the bottom 'theater', since i can see electricity and a place where a sound-mixing board/music system was located - interesting!
6. Some of the bushman paintings are so 'fresh', it does look like an artist has recreated them, ie NOT original - is this ever the case/acceptable, I have my doubts about one group of figures, whereas nearly everything else is 'washed out', irrespective on whether its under cover, or not???
Any other info welcome, this was my 1st visit - but not my last!
Cheers
Chris
