Yes I've been to Davies and the local Honda!!!

I will try this other place as well.

To be honest, I'm a little fed up trying to get hold of parts for the Honda.

Maybe I must sell it as is
Nou kyk nou net waar het daai hond loop l!

hi

phone leda performance in cape town

www.leda.co.za

they are the south african agents for wiseco

they have pistons, rings, sleeves, conrods, gudgeon pins, etc

valves you will need to get elsewhere

they are very good - very efficient

but its wiseco - so its not going to be cheap

cheers

Hi all,
can I fit a Honda XR600/650 engine in this bike or any other engine in my XR500RE?

I'm getting gatvol sourcing parts, for some reason nobody/place have got spares for a XR500RE, the XR500 is everywhere, but not the XR500RE.

Any suggestions or somebody that does have XR600/650 engine?

Please advise!!!

Just surf the net Yahoo or Google . I saw a lot of shops in the USA that you can mailorder from when i was looking at rebuilding a 500 RE, all new parts. I think that is the way to go with the least hassels

most of these parst should be the same

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/honda-motorcycle-xr500r-1983/o/m3093

they are okay on prices but shipping is very expensive

we should maybe look at putting together a wild dog order - we can then all split the shipping

i have a couple of things i would like to get - but not worth it as the shipping is way to much

Big Ed -

This may be the best advice. DON'T give up! You'll have one very nice bike when you're done.

Probably THE best source for bike parts is EBay. Even though I'm outta here in 10 days, I have the means to buy things on EBay  .
I'll be glad to  help where I can - my buddy from Cape Town is the parts manager at a bike shop the size of fooking MAKRO, he ships bikes and parts between the US and SA all the time.

What do you need?

Also, putting a different engine in the bike will be a nightmare - don't even try it, not worth it!

Cheers

Hey Scrat -

Do you have an email for this Benny? I'd love to chat with him and see if maybe he has the old bikes I rode in the army way back! Wouldn't that be a hoot.

Thanks

Duh - I just went and read the whole thread again.

Big E, not to be a know-it-all, but those parts you need should be new. A used big end bearing is not a good idea!

Fer instance.

If something pops up on ebay in the next 10 days or so, let me know - I'll get it and then figure out how to ship it. Or smuggle it in, which is how I prefer doing it  :ricky:

For used spares you can also try
  • Davies Motors @ 19 Edgar Lane, North End

Is he still around? Used to help me fix my 50 in the seventies!!
No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.
