Duh - I just went and read the whole thread again.

Big E, not to be a know-it-all, but those parts you need should be new. A used big end bearing is not a good idea!

Fer instance.

If something pops up on ebay in the next 10 days or so, let me know - I'll get it and then figure out how to ship it. Or smuggle it in, which is how I prefer doing it  :ricky:

Hi Whethefakawe,
I phoned Bennie and it seems like he would be able to help me.
I'm looking at the option of buying one of his refurbished engines and trade in my old engine.

Otherwise I will let you know if I need something, thanks.

I can wait to start my old Thumper up again.

Some feedback,
I managed to find a guy here in PE that specialises in old thumpers and he is prepaired to rebuild the engine for me.

He also gave me a number for XR Spares.

They are XR-Unlimited and there contact # is 0826235320

I know the guy, he sold all his XR parts to Wayne and Bennie, same as what I did.

Whoohoo! The engine is fixed again! There was a problem with the timing chain, but nothing to serious!
Fitted the engine tonight and may I add that I'm getting quite good at it, had the bike running in less than 2hrs with the help of a friend!
I was quite surprised that the bike started after the second attempt/kick!
Stoped the again, topped up with oil and took her for a gentle ride down the road!
I plan to take her on a leisurely cruise this weekend.
I will let you all know how it went and post some more pics.

How was the party after it started

I decide not to have a party, last time it broke again after 2km.

So I will have a party once I've done 200km without any problems.

Brings back some good memories...   I was lucky to be in the old Army Bike Squad.  In my second year ('85) we received the RE model (double carb and the lot), except they were very brown all over.

For the amount of veld and sand riding the bikes were very capable and reliable in those days.  Maintenance were low and with a clean airfilter and with a squirt of SAE90 on the chain every morning the bikes just kept going and going.

Maybe I must scan in some of the photos from those days and share with you guys.

Did you see Whethefakarewe (or something ???) ride report? He's also busy with a book about it. I need to prod him about that again...
